Your Role: The Field Supervisor will be responsible for managing and overseeing the field operations of two City-wide program services: Graffiti Free NYC and CleaNYC and NYC Ferry landings as part of the NYCEDC Property Operations Department.

The Field Supervisor will enforce the programs' strategic priorities and assist in fostering goodwill throughout communities in the five boroughs of NYC.
  • Graffiti-Free NYC: Uses customized vehicles with power washers and paint sprayers to clean graffiti throughout the City.
  • CleaNYC: Is a recently launched City-wide sidewalk cleaning service addressing commercial and industrial corridors City-wide. CleaNYC Operates (14) customized high-pressure surface cleaning vehicles
  • NYCFerry: Overseeing multiple routes, shifts and staff who perform maintenance and janitorial assignments at over 25 ferry landings throughout New York City.

The general hours require the flexibility to potentially work weekends, early mornings, and evenings to meet the needs of the three programs.

The crew members employed in the programs are part of a workforce development program that also provides on-the-job training as well as career advancement opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Program & Property Operations
  • Manage operations of Graffiti-Free NYC, Clean NYC and NYC Ferry landings including productivity, efficiency and quality of work and provide regular reports.
  • Perform regular spot checks and site visits to ensure that both staff and supervisors are meeting the needs of the programs.
  • Assist in coordination, dispatch and supervision of crews during snowstorms.
  • Act as the principal point of communication between the field staff and main office.
  • Oversee the field budget and exercise judgement on procuring EDC approved vendors for cost-savings.

Staff supervision and development:
  • Ensure that supervisors are overseeing work crews' delivery of services.
  • Serve in the leadership capacity of both programs in creating a positive work environment, ensuring accountability, cultivating a strong work ethic while also supporting development of crew.
  • Serve as a mentor to staff and implement staff development programs that identify high performing employees ready to advance.
  • Meet with staff; plan and execute regular check-ins to track progress and successes as well as identify and mitigate pain points.

Data collection and reporting
  • Collect and synthesize data on both the operations and efficiency of the programs.
  • Implement tracking and reporting solutions to improve the reporting processes to track program metrics.
  • Oversee the implementation of digital tools such as a work order management system.

Fleet Maintenance and Inventory
  • Oversee maintenance and repair work on fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Coordinate all inventory and supply needs to ensure the programs can operate at full capacity.

Office Administration
  • Liaise with members of the MIS department to implement new fleet management and routing operation systems.
  • Coordinate with Marketing department program needs for inventory, clothing supplies, and other needs.
  • Coordinate with Property Operations team members to dispatch staff for maintenance work at various EDC properties.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with strong management background; Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience managing a crew of over 30 workers. Experience in training staff and ensuring high quality performance.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing operations, programs and projects with concrete deliverables and consistent operational changes which affect daily management.
  • Ability to manage projects against tight timeline schedules and ability to respond quickly and efficiently to high priority requests.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook emailing and other programs as necessary.
  • Experience implementing new systems and policies and tracking the outcome of these during implementation periods.
  • Fluency in data collection and management, web-based tools, digital routing and vehicle tracking systems
  • Experience synthesizing information and identifying patterns and being able to report on this to upper management on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, understanding diverse populations and the ability to understand and work with varying skill sets.
  • Comfortable working with employees from a variety of different backgrounds with different skill sets.
  • Experience managing personnel issues, disciplinary processes and supporting staff.
  • Effective delegation skills and being able to thoughtfully prioritize low, medium and high priorities.
  • Intermediate mechanical knowledge a plus.
  • Experience with using equipment, tools, painting supplies and general maintenance knowledge a plus.
  • Valid NYC Driver's License with minimum 5 years' driving experience.
  • Flexibility to work overtime and to adjust work schedule to meet the needs of the programs.
  • New York City residence is required within 180 days of hire.
