Position Purpose

Leads the Office of Communications in developing and implementing the most effective ways to disseminate key messages. The position will build audience engagement, drive innovation and maintain consistent standards for digital communications across campus. A digital storyteller and strategic thinker, the director will have exceptional knowledge of the web, strong technical and project management skills, as well as an understanding of content and brand management, user experience design, and web analytics.

Key Accountabilities

Digital Strategy (50%)

• Develops strategies to disseminate key messages across Dartmouth-owned digital channels that reach a range of segmented online audiences

• Ensures web content is consistent with brand and style guidelines and is optimized for the user experience. Exercises quality control for site content elements, including copy, image assets, interactive elements, and more

• Proactively provides technological solutions including rich media, site optimization, promotional ideas, mobile, and viral, to support office content and media plans.

• Directs meaningful and measurable goal setting for new initiatives with an emphasis on reach, engagement, share-ability, and conversion; recommends ways to track digital metrics across Dartmouth's web presence

• Serves as an expert source on digital communications strategies to other offices across campus, including the Office of the President and the Office of the Provost, and assists with digital communications priorities

• Promotes use of high-quality visual assets across all media and shares them with other communications offices

• Collaborates with the associate director for digital engagement to coordinate web presentation and social media content

• Works closely with the Office of Web Services on projects affecting Dartmouth's digital communications strategy

Management (40%)

• Effectively manages large web development projects, including the upcoming home page and news site redesigns. Develops plans, remains organized and transparent, and adheres to schedules with attention to details, including budget constraints and personnel management. Able to anticipate bottlenecks and communicate them accordingly.

• Supervises senior graphic designer, digital asset manager, the web producer

• Oversees the daily production of Dartmouth's news site, e-newsletters, homepage, and other digital communications channels

• Maintains and stewards the office's digital asset management systems and workflow

• Manages the implementation of new technology across the Office of Communications as needed

Other (10%)

• Responsible for maintaining accuracy and consistent visual identity and editorial standards across all Office of Communications web properties

• Participates in the office on-call emergency web management rotation

• Serves on College communications committees to ensure high-quality digital communications. Represents Dartmouth at professional conferences such as Ivy Plus and/or user group meetings
