Amgen is seeking an Information Systems (IS) Director to lead our Enterprise Service Management (ESM) team. The Director will work with the Executive Director, Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and will be part of the OCIO leadership team. The OCIO is a key IS strategic function and trusted partner to the CIO in leading IS to become a business integrated organization. The office provides leadership for multi-functional management of information and technology across the enterprise. We oversee and lead sub-functions such as IS strategy, governance, enterprise architecture, communications and effec, performance management, enterprise service management and learning.

This person will lead a team that is responsible for the IS service desk, development and operation of Amgen's Service Now application, Amgen's ITIL framework and processes, Software Asset Management and management of several of our outsourced application management contracts. In these areas, you will be responsible for designing and maintaining a reliable and consistent operating environment as well as driving the strategy for how these services and technologies will be provided in the future.

This role will work closely with other members of the OCIO team as well as multi-functional teams in IS and other Amgen functions (such as Quality, Compliance, Legal and Internal Audit) to ensure that the IS processes, services and applications that this team is responsible for are in alignment with the IS and overall Amgen strategies.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Direct management of 5-6 leaders in the Enterprise Service management team as well as driving effective career development strategies across the ESM team
  • Delivery of the Amgen IS Service Desk as well as the development and implementation of a next generation approach to the IS service desk capability
  • Delivery of an enhanced Service Now application that brings to bear out of the box processes and capabilities. Updated version of Service Now will also deliver new capabilities such as software asset management and automated discovery and update of the CMDB.
  • Develop and drive an overarching strategy across the ESM services and teams that connects IS processes and applications (and also aligns with the IS strategy and enables a more efficient and effective set of services and applications for the IS organization)
  • Provide effective leadership and communication in a period of significant change, including ability to drive and influence transformation of existing processes and policies, and ability to lead and collaborate with global IS and business teams
  • Drive effective vendor management for key service providers for the IS service desk and application management services.
  • Responsible for driving effective collaboration with other external service providers interacting with key ESM service providers.


Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Master's degree and 8 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience

AND 4 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with the Service Now application, ITIL processes and IS service desk services.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and run shifting priorities in a rapidly changing environment
  • Experience with leading and handling external service providers
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and drive career development activities for both on-site and remote resources
  • 5+ years working for a global pharmaceutical company in technology and/or project delivery role
  • Understands the pharma/biotech business model, regulatory process & compliance guidelines
  • Sensitivity to diverse groups of people with the ability to lead many different opinions and perspectives, including tolerance for ambiguity
  • Demonstrated reputation as a well-respected, diverse teammate
  • Ability to build meaningful connections with partners
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills and an ability to adapt one's approach to a challenge, as well as good interpersonal skills
