The Director Training purpose is to ensure American Airlines achieves the Flight department objective of providing a corps of proficient line pilots and instructors/evaluators to fly a safe and efficient operation. Responsible to the Managing Director, Flight Training & Standards with the duty to assist in all aspects of achieving the objective.   


What you'll do
  • Maintain Pilot Qualification
  • Oversight, management and leadership to Fleet Training and Standards Managers
  • Coordinate with Director of Standards in developing/approving flight training programs
  • Coordinate with Director of Standards to ensure standardization of flight training programs
  • Oversee check airman staffing requirements including recruitment, hiring and training
  • Oversee fleets training capital expense budgets to assure cost management objectives are met
  • Participate in FOSB, OCM, ODAG, SMS process and other flight department meetings as required
  • Assist in representing American Airlines to FAA, APA and TWU for training specific items
  • Ensure departmental representation at fleet specific Operator & Training Conferences
  • Oversee administration of Standardization Enhancement Program (SEP)
  • Provide project administration as tasked by Managing Director
  • Report to Managing Director Flight Training and Standards to keep updated on all fleet related items
  • Assume the authority of the Managing Director, Flight Training & Standards when delegated 
All you'll need for success
  • Previous Check Airman experience
  • Previous management experience
  • Strong project management skills
  • Maintain pilot qualification
  • Compliance and signature on AA Job Description and Essential Functions form
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to build and facilitate relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to perform both independently and as a team member, handle multiple assignments and complete projects on time
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage shifting priorities
  • Reliable and dependable; Ability to accept ownership, responsibility and accountability of functional obligations needing little or no supervision
