Job Description Summary
The Director of Financial Assistance is a key position in the Enrollment Management division, which also includes Undergraduate Admission, Graduate Admission, Business Intelligence and Enrollment Systems. The Director is primarily responsible for executing the university's financial aid strategy through the timely delivery of scholarships, grants, loans, and student employment awards to prospective and continuing undergraduate and graduate students. Maintaining the delivery of exceptional customer service is a priority.

Essential Duties

The Director manages a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate aid program, (including both academic scholarships and need-based grants) and oversees an office staff of eight professional staff and four support staff. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management, the Director serves an important role in shaping and promoting a financial aid program that is vital to achieving the university's enrollment goals. The Director is expected to be the university's expert and advisor on financial aid policies and regulations at the institutional, state and federal levels and is well-versed in federal and institutional need analysis methodologies. The Director will manage daily functions related to awarding financial aid (including overseeing the office's financial aid software, PowerFAIDs), set staff priorities, direct work flow and monitor progress. In addition, the Director prepares and validates federal and state reports, ensures compliance with government regulations, including the annual audit, and provides responses to numerous surveys used for rankings and marketing. With the Associate Vice President, the Director prepares background information in support of the aid budget preparation process and strategy development. This also includes monitoring spending, managing funds, and preparing quarterly forecasts. The Director is responsible for setting policies and procedures for financial aid appeals within budget guidelines, and mentoring staff on the use of professional judgment and communicating complex concepts and policies so that they are easily understood. While the Director has oversight of all Office of Financial Assistance staff, direct reports include a senior associate director and three associate directors.
