Amgen is searching for a Sr. Associate, Data Scientist which is a member of the Global Information Protection (GIP) Metrics & Analytics team responsible for collaborating cross-functionally with analysts, engineers, and stakeholders to clarify business objectives, identify and prioritize requirements, and brainstorm and develop data-centric solutions to increase cyber defense and resilience. This role will report to the Sr. Manager, Information Security and will be based in Tampa, FL, at Amgen's Capability Center.

You will improve execution of advanced analytics practices while building and validating models and algorithms to help identify information security risk themes and quantify risk-buy down across the enterprise. This role will innovate and add significant business impact and competitive advantage through the strategic use of data and technology.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop high-performance algorithms, prototypes, predictive models and proof of concepts using Python or R
  • Identify business needs and propose potential analytics approaches and improvements to data pipelines
  • Build prototypes and demonstrations to better access and utilize data assets; Present analysis ideas, progress and results to leadership and business partners
  • Assist with data discovery for improving reports and crafting efficient data stores
  • Work with data engineers on end to end data integration and curation, including building quality into the process
  • Contribute to the design and development for on-demand reporting solutions and the exploration and understanding of new tools, and techniques
  • Provide clear documentation for delivered solutions and processes
  • Take ownership of relevant issues and remediate problems through to completion, to include providing on-call support for data and integration solutions
  • Maintain awareness of the changing analytics environment (e.g., AI, machine learning, etc.)
  • Maintain and upkeep the program's vision
  • Self-starter with a high degree of initiative
  • Must have communication and organizational skills and customer service focus
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work effectively under minimal supervision


Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree

OR

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of Data Science / Data Science Engineering / Mathematics / Statistics experience

OR

Associate degree and 6 years of Data Science / Data Science Engineering / Mathematics / Statistics experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 8 years of Data Science / Data Science Engineering / Mathematics / Statistics experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience
  • Programming experience with Python, or R and experience with ML libraries like scikit-learn, MLib, or TensorFlow
  • Write well-abstracted and reusable code in Python, R, or Scala; stand up web applications;
  • Experience working with large datasets and distributed computing tools (Spark, Hive, etc.)
  • Excellent organization/planning skills and talent for managing many large and complex datasets.
  • Technical curiosity with strong logical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experienced in best-practice developer methodologies including documentation, version control, and code review
  • Ability to communicate analysis in a clear, detailed, and actionable manner
  • Passion for learning and staying on top of current developments in advanced analytics
  • Biotech / Pharma experience is a plus


One or more of the following certifications, including but not limited to:
  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • SANS Global Information Assurance Certifications (GIAC)
