Overview

The Firmwide Operational Risk Capital and Stress Testing (FORCAST) team is an independent function responsible for the development and maintenance of the Firm’s operational risk quantification framework. The Head of FORCAST reports to the Firmwide Risk Executive for Operational Risk.  The FORCAST team focuses on the quantification of operational risks (using a variety of tools such as Scenario Analysis) for use in Risk Appetite, Capital, and Stress Testing (CCAR / DFAST / ICAAP).

Position Description

The Scenario Analysis team within FORCAST focuses on the quantification of large, idiosyncratic operational risk scenarios (e.g. natural disasters, terrorist attacks, cyber-attacks, etc.) that by nature are challenging to quantify.  The team focuses on the “key drivers” of each specific operational risk scenario and leverages various data inputs and SME judgement to help quantify the potential loss of each scenario.  The team also leverages data points including historical losses, RCSA, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), and the Material Risk Inventory (MRI) to support the quantification.  The Associate will work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across all Lines of Businesses (CIB, AWM, CCB, CB, and CTC) and functional groups, and will liaise with other key stakeholders as appropriate to continue to enhance the Firm’s scenario quantification framework.

Responsibilities:

Assist with the execution of the Scenario Analysis program including:

  • Participate in the design, structuring, and quantification of operational risk scenarios

  • Critically assess the design and key assumptions for structured scenarios

  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders and partners to help drive the team’s agenda

  • Prepare executive level materials to be used during scenario quantification workshops and presentations to senior management

  • Lead and facilitate scenario quantification workshops with SMEs and key stakeholders to price the potential events at least annually

  • Ensure that SMEs have a clear understanding of the methodology that is utilized for the development of the scenarios

  • Review and challenge material risk identification and scenario quantification results to ensure consistency and comparability across LOBs

  • Participate in the semi-annual segmentation of the Material Risk Inventory, including the creation of various analyses and thoughtful challenges

  • Prepare high visibility materials and other supporting documentation for regulatory submissions (e.g. CCAR / DFAST)

  • Problem solving skills - Superior ability to structure and scope complex problems, apply a range of analytical tools, develop and synthesize insights, and recommend solutions

  • Superior client management skills – Demonstrated ability to build relationships with senior managers and peers

  • Creative thinking to address new challenges from an evolving operational risk framework

  • Understanding of drivers of operational risk in large diversified financial institutions is a plus

  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills; detail oriented and committed to excellence

  • Demonstrated ability to influence change through clear written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to work with limited supervision and make independent decisions

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Power Point, and Excel - Pitch PRO knowledge is a plus
