Mission of Department

The Office of Student Engagement cultivates well rounded students by preparing them to stand apart in a competitive workforce upon graduation. Consistent with the College's Mission of preparing involved students in a caring community, the Office of Student Engagement supports, encourages and challenges students by providing opportunities for hands-on growth through activities in the following areas. Student Leadership, Student Clubs and Organizations, Recreation, Programming and Event Support, Performing Arts, maintenance of vibrant student spaces. Though these opportunities, the Office of Student Engagement enhances the student experience while contributing to enrollment, student retention and student success.

Summary of Position

The Coordinator of Student Activities (CSA) is responsible for, but not limited to, creating a positive experience for all students through programming, club & organizational development and the role involvement plays in soft skill growth. With focus on Club and Organizations, the CSA will serve as a resource to students and foster an environment that produces successful opportunities for Alfred State students to become engaged. This position will also provide oversight and management of the Pioneer Student Center, which is a primary area for programming and recreation. This position may include working nights and weekends dependent on programming support needs.

General Responsibilities

  • Actively support student club & organization advising and development
  • Provide organizational support and serve as a resource for students and organizations seeking help with Pioneer Link
  • Knowledge of structure, workflow, and operating procedures of the College, Student Affairs and Student Engagement
  • Support critical Division or College-wide programs such as Orientation, Welcome Week, Hot Dog Day, Commencement and all Enrollment events.

Focused Responsibilities

  • Aid in the creation of new clubs/organizations, and re-recognition of existing clubs/organizations
  • Plan, market and facilitate events, work-shops, activities fairs, showcases and award shows throughout the year
  • Oversee fundraising forms, tracking and application process
  • Create and deploy programs designed to increase campus awareness of Pioneer Link and Corq
  • Serve as the advisor to Alfred Programming Board and Late Night Events
  • Hire, train and supervise Late Night and Pioneer Student Center employees

Supervisory Responsibilities (Students)

  • Pioneer Student Center (8-10)
  • Late Night Events (12-16)

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 2 years' experience in Student Affairs at a higher education institution
  • Event and program management
  • Effective organizational, administrative, and communication skills
  • Ability to work with students, staff, parents, families, and faculty at all levels

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in programming at a primarily Residential College
  • Experience in the creation and management of large scale events (Concerts, awards shows, Spring Weekends, Carnivals, etc?)
