Commercial Banking (CB) provides a full range of services including lending, treasury services, investment banking, commercial card and asset management products to meet its clients’ domestic and international financial needs. CB’s 1,500 bankers serve approximately 19,000 clients nationally, including corporations, municipalities, financial institutions and not-for-profit entities, with annual revenue generally ranging from $20 million to $2 billion, and nearly 37,000 real estate clients, owners and investors.  CB is the third largest commercial bank in the U.S., with almost $170 billion in loans and almost $180 billion in deposits. In 2015, CB generated revenue and earnings of $6.9 billion and $2.2 billion, respectively.


The Control Management is seeking a VP who will be an integral part of the team which drives a variety of work across Control related initiatives and governance processes.  This team is critical to supporting the CB’s Control Management discipline including a high degree of collaboration with many partners across the CB Control Community and conducting visible work for the CB Executive Management Team and. This versatile role would include work related to control project and initiatives which may include emerging risk topics, supporting key control meetings, engagement of CB Control Partners in information sharing and learning.


This broad role provides a great opportunity to expand the candidate’s knowledge of Commercial Banking, its sub-LOBs and all of its supporting Functional Partners.  It also provides the opportunity for exposure to CB’s Senior Leadership, insight into CB’s key objectives and priorities and an ability to sharpen analytical and problem solving skills.   



Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive various control-related projects and initiatives focused on process enhancements, control assessment and deep dives with various functional and business partners across the Commercial Bank.  Includes an ability to independently drive work, project manage and pragmatically solve problems
  • Drive production of weekly/monthly reporting and messaging of emerging risk topics to CB Executive Management Team and other Firmwide forums (Firmwide Control Committee, etc.)
  • Ensure operational practices are in compliance with relevant risk standards and  policies to maintain an effective control environment
  • Provide direct interface with Audit and Compliance related to CB’s Audit/Exam schedule
  • Develop Executive-level materials for key meetings with the Audit Committee of the Board and well as Regulatory presentations
  • Provide control related subject matter expertise for relevant projects driven inside and outside of the Control Management organization
  • Facilitate interaction and strong connectivity between CB Control and the wider CB Control Community related to emerging topics, ongoing communication, meetings, and learning sessions with an objective of keeping this matrixed team well connected
  • Maintain strong engagement across multiple stakeholders and collaborate with Key senior partners and stay abreast on risk and control agendas
  • Develop junior team members both formally and informally, including serving as a mentor to help them develop their risk management skills and support of key priorities


    •        BA/BS degree

    •        7+ years of experience with background in control-oriented role (Audit, Risk Management, Compliance, Strategy, Program Management, Consulting or other like-experience)

    •         Ability to work independently across various levels in the organization

    •         Ability to think critically, develop structure and solve problem in a pragmatic and balanced way

    •         Ability to influence and drive change

    •         Organized with a strong desire to drive execution

    •        Team player – collaborates well with others

    •         Delivers messages effectively through PowerPoint presentations and enjoys coaching others in the art of delivering messages

    •         Motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment


    Preferred Qualifications:

    •        Excellent oral and written communication skills

    •       Proven track record of control expertise

    •       Desire to drive process improvement
