Fermilab's Facilities Engineering Services Section builds and maintains mission-critical infrastructure and services from which high-energy physics research can be safely accomplished without interruption. We provide housing accommodations and logistics and property management. We work on projects that support all of the laboratory's facilities and experiments.

The Fermilab Facilities Engineering Services Section (FESS) seeks a highly motivated JULIE Coordinator/ Task Manager candidate to join the Utilities/ Engineering Department. Under general supervision, oversees subcontractors' planning & quality control processes including preliminary job site discussions & final acceptance inspections. Will serve as a liaison to various Laboratory groups affected by construction projects to ensure they are informed of construction & operational schedules.

You Will:
  • Processes underground Utility Locates, and Excavation Permits.
  • Coordinates internal and external utility locators for Fermilab excavation and/or concrete cutting and core work for inside and outside of buildings and approves invoices for outside contractors.
  • Develop drawings and specifications for various engineering projects.
  • Plan projects from inception to completion and bring project(s) to operating status.
  • Prioritizes Excavation Permits as necessary based on project's importance.
  • • Provides drawings/sketches of pertinent areas as appropriate to guide field personnel.
  • • Provides GPS location coordinates for all below grade utilities.
  • • Maintains the GIS database which includes recording, through the use of GPS/Rover, subsurface lab utilities and validates/reconciles the results with current utility atlases.
  • • Performs construction site visits to obtain information in all seasons.
  • • Complete small to medium sized plant projects from design through execution and closure with full supporting documentation.
  • • Oversees subcontractors' planning and quality control processes, including preliminary job site
  • discussions, hazard assessments for the scope of work and final acceptance inspections.
  • • Inspects construction work in progress to ensure that materials, equipment, and work standards,
  • schedules, safety, environmental protection, and quality requirements conform to contract
  • specifications, applicable construction codes, ES&H Plans, applicable OSHA Standards, and
  • hazard analyses.
  • • Coordinate construction activities with ongoing Laboratory operations including mobilization and
  • set up on construction equipment and processes, utility service interruptions, traffic control, and
  • Laboratory provided services and equipment.
  • • Other duties as assigned.
  • • Abides by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health
  • and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

We Are Looking For:
  • Associates Degree or equivalent in related field professional experience totaling a minimum of 7 years of heavy industrial/ commercial experience or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field with a minimum of 1+ years of heavy industrial / commercial experience.
  • Must have Experience in overseeing and managing industrial/commercial construction
  • Expertise in all construction disciplines including excavations, conventional construction, electrical, mechanical, and building automation.
  • Must have thorough working knowledge of ERSI GIS software.
  • Experience with Leica Viva Rover is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and stakeholders.
  • Ability to produce conceptual and final designs, specifications, cost estimates and bid documents for small to medium projects.
  • Must have knowledge of Utility Locating Industry (JULIE, “Illinois1Call)
  • Skill in the preparation and delivery of graphic and data presentations.
  • Skill in the use of word processing, spreadsheet and scheduling software.
  • Experience in the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software. AutoCAD or Revit software a plus.
