Commercial Banking’s Commercial Real Estate (CRE) businesses include Commercial Term Lending, Real Estate Banking, and Community Development Banking which provide financing and treasury solutions for investors of multifamily, industrial, retail, and office properties, affordable housing, and other economic development projects in low- and moderate-income communities.

Position Description

The Product Controller team plays a key role in providing business advisory and accounting support, control oversight, and integrity of the financial statements and transaction end-to-end control in support of the business.  Responsibilities of this team include oversight of business line, legal entity, and regulatory financial statement and management reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting policies including new business initiatives and product review, business performance control, improving ongoing processes, and ensuring execution and implementation of the overall financial architecture.  Since contact with virtually every part of the firm is essential to Controllers, professionals in the department experience JPMorgan businesses, products, and technology systems in depth.


We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a strong controller background and analytical skills to deconstruct complex transactions and processes and propose creative, robust, and well-controlled booking model solutions.


The VP will cover a wide range of responsibilities including:

  • Partnering with Front Office, Treasury, Technology, Operations, Risk, Portfolio Managers, Tax, Accounting Policy, Valuation Control, External/Regulatory Reporting, Legal, and other key stakeholders to ensure transactions are seamlessly executed and reported appropriately
  • Influencing business decisions and strategy by providing financial expertise and challenging conventional business views
  • Leadership by example, coaching, and motivation of team members
  • Accountability for compliance with P&L, Legal Entity and Product Control standards as well as all applicable corporate accounting policies
  • Continuous improvement through review of current practices/processes, identifying deficiencies and/or weaknesses, and delivering solutions to enhance the current control framework of the business
  • Act as team lead in interfacing with external auditors on annual financial statements
  • Accountability for liquidity and capital monitoring and adequacy to regulatory and internal JPM policy requirements
  • Stewardship and holistic vision to oversee financial and transaction systems maintenance, enhancements, and conversions that are strategic and economically viable
  • Providing monthly results presentation, analysis, and commentary
  • Ensuring financials are accurate and timely by mitigating risks and implementing effective controls as part of month-end close
  • Participate in the review of new business initiatives and lead high exposure projects

 Qualifications and Candidate Profile
  • CPA designation required

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 6-10 years accounting experience, exposure to fund accounting preferred

  • Experience sourcing and applying technical accounting guidance that cover such topics as Variable Interest Entities, Debt Modification, Consolidation/Equity Method/Joint Ventures

  • Exposure to equity/equity derivative/fixed income products preferred

  • Superior analytical acumen and investigative problem-solving and decision making skills

  • Ability to partner effectively across varying levels of seniority with strong influencing and facilitation skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, along with the ability to tailor a message to different audiences

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills

  • Knowledge of Alteryx, Business Objects, and SAP a plus

  • Working knowledge of coding principles a plus
