This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Real Estate Risk Professional to join the REB Portfolio Management team.  This team will closely partner with REB Coverage and Underwriting to ensure robust and accurate portfolio reporting by performing and overseeing a variety of enhanced data management and portfolio management functions.


The Team Lead will manage a small team of Credit Risk Managers, Associates, or Analysts and is responsible for recruiting, performance management, employee development and coaching, training and staff readiness.  The successful candidate will be an effective leader that partners well across the organization to drive process improvement and has the ability to manage competing project demands.


Responsibilities:
  • Partner with internal stakeholders including CRE Market Surveillance, REB Risk Underwriting, Client Executives, and others to provide enhanced, and in-depth portfolio monitoring
  • Annual Review Process:  Efficiently manage the annual review pipeline by monitoring team assignments and performing timely reviews of packages submitted by team members; ensure deliverables contain a thorough analysis of the guarantor/sponsor and related commercial real estate loans and/or other credit products; drive consistency and quality of deliverables
  • Risk Rating:  Continuously monitor the portfolio for risk rating appropriateness and perform off-cycle risk rating changes as needed
  • Internal Systems Data Management:  system data ownership, quality and timely updates for internal reporting,  portfolio reviews, and criticized loan management
  • Controls and Compliance: monitor loans for covenant, reporting, and regulatory compliance
  • Special projects as necessary

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics or real estate, plus 7+ years of experience in commercial real estate or debt financing, or equivalent is preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting methodology and experience evaluating risk across multiple product types including office, retail, industrial, and multifamily
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to develop and manage teams comprised of local and remote colleagues
  • Adept at interpreting and detecting issues that impact risk rating rational  
  • Experience presenting information in an organized manner that concisely express ideas and propose effective solutions
  • Ability to work under critical time constraints while managing multiple deadlines
  • Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Completion of formal credit training program preferred
  • Previous management experience preferred
  • Passion for commercial real estate
  • Ability to travel on a periodic basis
