Job Description

Duties: Monitor and test application performance in order to ensure production applications are uninterrupted, secure, correctly functioning, and in compliance with all IT and controls policies. Identify potential application bottlenecks, perform root cause analysis on applications in production, suggest technical solutions, and collaborate with developers to implement technical fixes. Install, maintain, upgrade, and support Big Data ecosystem components of applications. Perform cluster configuring, cluster administration, cluster capacity planning, performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Enhance monitoring by writing custom scripts. Perform infrastructure and application capacity planning. Maintain all disaster recovery plans and oversee appropriate testing. Identify and automate manual tasks, and develop automated reports around incident management, change management, hygiene, and Service Level Agreement (SLA) tracking. Reduce failover duration and ensure that SLAs are met and maintained.

Minimum education and experience required: This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field of study plus seven (7) years of experience in the job offered or seven (7) years of experience as Software Developer/Engineer or related occupation. The employer will alternatively accept a Master’s degree plus five (5) years of experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus seven (7) years of experience. 

Skills Required: This position requires five (5) years of experience with the following skills: performing software development throughout the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC); scripting in UNIX, JavaScript, Shell, and PERL; defining job flows using Oozie; loading log data directly into HDFS using Flume; database technologies including SQL, Oracle, DB2, and Greenplum; Java EE; Linux, Unix, AIX, and CentOS operating systems; and liaising with global application support and production support teams. This position requires three (3) years of experience with the following skills: monitoring tools including Splunk, AppD, Apica, Datadog, and DynaTrace; and scheduling tools including Autosys and Control-M.
