Responsibilities:

Teaching:
  • Keep up with developments in the field of study.
  • Demonstrate high standards—academic and professional.
  • Evaluate student work constructively and provide timely feedback.
  • Teach at days, times and locations that meet student needs.
  • Provide access to students through posted conference hours, electronic communications, and other appropriate methods and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate, and recommend students learning materials.
  • Develop and use a syllabus and course information materials for each course, laboratory, or clinical setting within state, college, and departmental guidelines.

  • Maintain high standards of competence in the discipline(s) and teaching methodologies through professional development activities.
  • Use effective teaching methods and materials that reflect thoughtful planning, assist students in meeting course objectives, are appropriate for students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles, and engage students in learning.
  • Evaluate program curricula and teaching methods through a process of self- reflection.
  • Meet or exceed professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and business/industry/higher education requirements, as appropriate to the discipline.

Service:
  • Participate actively in college meetings, committees, task forces, and councils.
  • Participate in college-related activities such as registration, community education, student recruitment and retention, and faculty selection.
  • Participate in college activities for students/student organizations.
  • Participate in business and community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission and values of the college.
  • Participate in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
  • Participate in setting departmental goals, developing college budgets to support those goals, and planning for achieving those goals.
  • Maintain departmental affiliation agreements and partnerships with other institutions.

Essential Job Functions for Coordinator of Clinical Education:
  • Plans, coordinates, facilitates, administers, and monitors clinical activities on behalf of the program and in coordination with the program's faculty.
  • Performs responsibilities consistent with accreditation agency standards and guidelines, and institutional policy.
  • Acts as an intermediary among the appropriate parties to facilitate the acquisition of clinical agreements.
  • Selects clinical education sites that demonstrate characteristics of sound patient/client management, ethical and professional behavior, and currency with practice.
  • Establishes, develops, and maintain s an adequate number of clinical education sites relative to quality, quantity and diversity of learning experiences (i.e., continuum of care, commonly seen diagnoses, across the lifespan, health care delivery systems, payers, cultural competence issues) to meet the educational needs of students and the program, the philosophy and outcomes of the program, and evaluative criteria.
  • Facilitates assessment of the clinical education component (includes clinical education sites, clinical educators, etc.).
  • Communicates news , current information, and changes influenced by accreditation ( e.g., pertinent policies and procedures, curriculum, clinical education objective, staffing changes, and site availability ) among all concerned stakeholders ( e.g., the academic institution, clinical education sites, clinical faculty and students) to main current knowledge of the education program, the clinical education site, and health care changes and affecting clinical practice and education.
  • Provides ongoing communication with each clinical education site to include:

a.Clinical education contractual agreement negotiated and maintained between program and each education site;
b.Policy and procedures of the program pertaining to clinical education;
c.Provision of dates for each clinical education experience;
d.Program requests from clinical education sites regarding the number and type of available student clinical placements;
  • Ensures that all clinical instructors and students are in compliance with the site- specific requirements for the site to which they are assigned.
  • Provides program and clinical specific training to clinical instructors, preceptors, and students.

Essential Job Functions for Retention Specialist:

1. Works with nursing students, of various cultures, experiencing academic difficulty.
2. Prescribes specific, appropriate, and justified learning strategies.
3. Plans and implements data driven remediation and tutoring programs, through a coordinated team effort, which includes instructors, other education professionals and students.
4. Blends quantitative and qualitative data into an efficient gathering, reporting, and analysis process
5. Administers, analyzes, and interprets tests measuring aptitude, learning styles and stress levels.
6. Tutors and mentors students in the areas of time management, organization, study skills and stress management.
7. Coordinates learning individually and in small groups.
8. Conducts workshops.
9. Participates in cross campus communication and engagement with faculty, staff, and current students
10. Maintains high standards of competence through professional development activities.
11. Meets or exceeds professional standards, state mandated guidelines, requirements of business/industry, and higher education, as appropriate.
12. Participates in college meetings and/or committees, task forces and councils.
13. Participates in college related activities such as; community outreach, recruitment, and student retention.
14. Participates in activities required to maintain program and college accreditation standards.
15. Participates in business and community activities that foster goodwill.


Additional Job Functions:
  • Participate in the instruction of nursing theory/lab and clinical practice in an ACEN accredited program. Plan, supervise, and evaluate student clinical experiences.
  • Theory and clinical times will include day and evening classes.
  • Other responsibilities include, but are limited to advising students, promoting and facilitating community awareness of the program, participating in committee assignments, professional development, recruiting and retention of students.
  • Involves travel of clinical facilities as well as day, evening and weekend clinical. Ability to function as an effective team member. Ability to work effectively with students of various cultures.
