POSITION SUMMARY:

The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care and support within the ambulatory setting.

The Medical Assistant accurately completes patient interviews, collects appropriate specimens, assists the physician with patient exams, maintains departmental inventory, and ensures quality direct patient care and non-professional services as directed by the Registered Nurse. This position is also responsible for performing the following as required by position: phlebotomy for diagnostic studies, CLIA waived testing. This position may also complete EKG's and drug and alcohol testing.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to team work and cooperation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of a Medical Assistant program strongly preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Certification in Phlebotomy ASCP preferred. Registration and certification as a Medical Assistant strongly preferred. BLSHCP certified within six months of hire or transfer.

EXPERIENCE: 1-3 years of prior experience in Ambulatory care preferred. Must be able to handle high volume of interactions with frequent interruptions. Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30-60 days from date of hire.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the medical office environment, blood borne pathogens, including exposure to infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. This position requires considerable reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing and walking. This position also requires long periods of telephone work. This position frequently lifts 25-50 lbs and occasionally lifts 50-100 lbs. The essential functions for this position are listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool.
