The Commercial Bank (CB) is in the midst of a multi-year initiative to transform across all business segments, sales, service, onboarding, support functions, and technology. We are taking a clean sheet of paper approach to determine how we should provide the best experience for our clients. A key foundation across all of these programs is the implementation of a clear data strategy, including visibility and entitlements, dashboards and visualizations, data lakes, and data quality. These programs are in various stages of maturity, from scope setting to initial rollouts.
The Control Manager  will be responsible for providing support for creating, documenting, and monitoring controls for CB Client Onboarding organization, including impacts from Project Welcome, Strategic Data initiatives, TS and CB Product road maps. This role will be part of the CB Regulatory Operations Business Operations Executive (BOE) team reporting directly to the Control Manager Executive Director.  The role will be working closely with Product teams, Technology, and control colleagues across the wholesale franchise. The incumbent will also work with representatives from the business, legal, compliance, risk, audit, and technology control functions.     
Control Management (CM) maintains a strong and consistent control environment across the firm. With Control Managers appointed for each Line of Business, Function and Region, there is a comprehensive coverage and joint accountability model with the business executive that promotes early operational risk identification and assessment, effective design and evaluation of controls and sustainable solutions to mitigate operational risk.
Control Management focuses on four areas: 
1) Control design and expertise
2) Risks and controls identification/assessment
3) Control breaks and resolution
4) Control governance & reporting
Role Responsibilities:
  • Partner across Regulatory Operations Control Management to evaluate current controls in areas impacted by the Transformation, QC and QA testing, opportunities for strategic improvement, synchronization, and synergies with the goal of delivering a comprehensive and effective control management program.
  • Provide control related due diligence to provide necessary guidance to the Client Onboarding business operations function to foster a proactive risk and control culture that leverages proven evaluation strategies and sound change management protocols.
  • Monitor projects on an ongoing basis, evaluating progress and quality, managing issue resolution and taking corrective action as necessary.
  • As new systems and processes are developed, ensure proper controls and procedures are designed and implemented to mitigate risk, and that the framework is updated for ongoing monitoring.
  • Create and track progress on Action Plans to ensure they are completed timely and accurately - escalate to senior management when needed.
  • Partner effectively with colleagues across the business, legal, compliance, risk, audit, and technology control functions to drive consistent and rigorous operational risk practices and Control programs including: control committees, risk mitigation, key risk indicators, control design and effectiveness evaluation/testing.
  • Help establish control governance and reporting to identify meaningful metrics to inform on health of operational risk and control environment; escalate control breaks based on key reporting indicators; and manage control committees and forums.
  • Leverage technology and process improvements to mitigate reliance on manual processes. Ensure these features are prioritized within the software development lifecycle.


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 5+ years of financial services experience in controls, audit, quality assurance, risk management, or compliance preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of control and risk management concepts with the ability to design, create and evaluate Risk & Control Self-Assessment in conjunction with business partners.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) with the ability to develop compelling and meaningful executive presentations that will drive opportunities / recommendation for improvement
  • Experience in leadership roles in business operations strongly preferred
  • Business knowledge - ability to understand the Commercial Banking business globally / knowledge of regulation surrounding business; demonstrated experience working in a highly complex business and controls environment preferred
