  • ​This job is a member of the Credit Union Team within the American Airlines Credit Union.
  • ​The Bank Secrecy Act Officer is responsible for developing, implementing and administering all aspects of American Airlines Federal Credit Union's Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Compliance Program. The BSA Officer ensures compliance with BSA, the USA PATRIOT Act, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), Customer Identification Program (CIP) and all other applicable laws, rules and regulations.
What you'll do
  • Determines and leads the overall strategic direction of the BSA and OFAC Compliance Program.
  • Evaluates and addresses BSA and OFAC compliance risks by maintaining proficient knowledge and necessary level of expertise through continued educational courses, learning and review of regulatory and industry publications, news and information.
  • Advises the General Counsel and Senior Management of emerging BSA and OFAC compliance issues. Consults and guides the organization in the establishment of controls to mitigate risks, and proactively recommends changes due to new developments impacting the organization.
  • Identifies training needs for Credit Union employees and recommends appropriate training.
  • Meets with National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) examiners, auditors and consultants to address BSA and OFAC compliance issues. Coordinates responses to any findings, and is responsible for developing and executing action plans, when necessary.
  • Provides annual BSA training to the Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee and executive leadership.
  • Works with all levels of Management to facilitate the understanding of BSA and OFAC compliance in its actual application. Maintains open lines of communication to drive collaboration and provides support across impacted areas.
  • Oversees the administration and integrity of the BSA/AML monitoring system.
  • Directs the execution of the annual BSA/OFAC Risk Assessment to ensure its adequacy and validity.
  • Ensures BSA department activities remain effective and efficient by providing leadership, training and oversight to employees within the department.

  • Ensures the security and confidentiality of all account and related information which is part of their work and for ensuring that his/her work is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Works on additional projects and duties as assigned.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or a combination of education and work experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions
  • Minimum of 5 years of strong BSA experience or an equivalent working knowledge of BSA and OFAC federal and state laws and regulations as it relates to the financial institution industry
  • Previous work history or a background in BSA/OFAC compliance at a financial institution and certified BSA/OFAC compliance accreditation; ACAMs certification preferred
  • Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Thorough understanding of the Credit Union's operational business lines and member base, including, but not limited to: products, services, geographic locations, transactional activity, delivery channels and internal controls
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NCUA examination process
  • Experience with AACU products, policies, procedures and systems
  • Previous management or supervisory experience

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) gained through either work experience with the software or education and hands-on use of the software
  • Ability to identify and understand issues, problems and opportunities; comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions using effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions, and taking action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences
  • Ability to demonstrate superior people management, interpersonal and employee engagement skills, to include directing, supervising, coaching, counseling and motivating staff
  • Ability to demonstrate strong research, analytical, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and summarize and present findings in a clear and concise manner, exercising sound judgment
  • Ability to work independently, collaboratively and effectively with internal business partners at all levels and demonstrate a working knowledge of major business functions
  • Ability to learn and adapt to any changes in the regulatory environment and apply knowledge on an operational level
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and capable of self-direction, independent judgment, initiative and flexibility when warranted
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent planning and organization skills, prioritize and manage multiple assignments simultaneously, and work effectively under pressure and strict deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidential information
  • Ability to pass applicable American Airlines pre-hire compliance checks
  • Must have an acceptable credit history, which will be verified
