DEPARTMENT SUMMARY

As the national association of immigration lawyers, AILA is on the front lines of immigration law and policy. Our members practice in every area of immigration law, for example, representing children and separated parents, helping universities and businesses access the talent they need, or helping long-time residents achieve their dream of becoming a U.S. Citizen. We need a governance presence that will help educate, inform, and inspire our members.

The Governance & Component Relations Department provides AILAs Board of Governors and component groups (Chapters, Sections and Interest Groups) with managerial, hands-on support and consultative services related to governance, leadership development, compliance and operations.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Chapter and Communities Support Specialist is primarily responsible for assisting volunteer leaders in growing and nurturing their chapters and communities. The Specialist will report to the Senior Director of Governance and Leadership Strategy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Chapter Support

Prepare and distribute monthly chapter rosters and reports

Work with chapter leaders to maintain chapter websites

Conduct outreach to chapter leaders before and after chapter conferences and events to coordinate services and support

Coordinate chapter chair meeting logistics, including call scheduling and monitoring, as well as recording and distributing minutes

Manage chapter officer and liaison submission processes

Support the development of chapter and component leader resources, including the chapter leader resource manual

Assist in collecting and analyzing chapter performance data

Monitor all chapter distribution lists for updates, issues, and opportunities and elevate as needed

Coordinate AILA National/Chapter administrative functions as necessary

Field chapter-related member inquiries

Survey chapter leaders periodically to better understand chapter needs and provide administrative support for National/Chapter relations

Manage chapter award programs

Community Support

Prepare and distribute periodic rosters and reports to community volunteer leaders

Work with Component Relations Associate to develop and maintain community websites

Support the planning and execution of association and Law Student activities including organizing liaison calls, recording call and meeting minutes, and activities

Monitor all community distribution lists for updates, issues, and opportunities and elevate as needed

Help identify and recruit potential International Associates and create retention strategies for International Associates

Assist members who wish to join sections and interest groups

Department Support

Provide administrative support, as needed, to support the goals of the department

Hands-on experience working with membership-driven organization.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>KNOWLEDGE</strong></p> <p>1. Working knowledge of computer and web software (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and HTML). Membership database experience is important.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>SKILLS</strong></p> <p>1. Track record in membership growth and development.</p> <p>2. Strong member-service orientation.</p> <p>3. Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.</p> <p>4. Capacity to provide timely response to requests for information, service and/or assistance.</p> <p>5. Excellent writing, editing, proofreading and organizational skills.</p> <p>6. Working knowledge of computer and web software (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and HTML). Membership database experience is a plus.</p> <p>7. Working knowledge of Internet research tools.</p> <p>8. Database management proficiency and skills.</p> <p>9. Capacity to develop a working knowledge of association products and services.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>ABILITIES</strong></p> <p>1.
