Amgen is seeking an Associate Scientist to join our Pivotal Attribute Sciences group within Amgen's Process Development organization. This Scientist will support process development, analytical method development/qualification and characterization of therapeutic proteins and will work out of our corporate campus in Thousand Oaks, CA.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Hands-on application of standard protein characterization assays (SEC, CEX, CE-SDS, cIEF and MS)
  • Develop appropriate analytical methods to support product release and stability testing as well as process development; Qualify the methods per guidelines
  • Transfer analytical methods to support GMP campaign
  • Maintain electronic lab notebook and records in accordance with department policy
  • Participate in team efforts to advance scientific development and technologies
  • Prepare presentation for group and project meetings
  • Author internal procedures and reports
  • Contribute to external publication/scientific presentations


Basic qualifications:

Master's degree 2 years of Research experience

OR

Bachelor's degree 4 years of Research experience

Preferred qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Protein Chemistry or related discipline
  • Excellent analytical lab skills with wet chemistry and HPLC (e.g. Chromeleon or Empower); Experience with capillary electrophoresis and LC-MS
  • Hands-on experience with protein characterization
  • A fundamental knowledge of protein biochemistry and biophysical characterization
  • Proficiency in basic office software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to read scientific literature and demonstrating scientific curiosity
  • Good trouble shooting and problem solving skills using scientific judgment
