The Associate Scientist will be part of a fast-paced, integrated and interactive research group exploring therapeutics for our Cardiometabolic Disorders department. The successful candidate will be an in vivo technical expert responsible for managing and performing in vivo study support for multiple teams within the department.

Position Responsibilities

Partner with lead investigators to design and execute in vivo studies, including new model development

Oversee all in-life portions of in vivo studies, including detailed note taking during all stages of a study, performing all necessary techniques (collecting baseline measures, randomization, dosing, sample collection, necropsy), monitoring animal health and welfare, prepare for harvests, and perform both the preparation and delivery of collected samples to different functions for analysis

Working both independently and as an integral member of different program teams, and also interact productively with support staff

Maintaining clear, organized communication and updates with investigators and all involved parties during a study

Being accountable for accurate, organized and timely record keeping

Demonstrating a strong commitment to animal welfare and compliance

Opportunity to develop ex vivo skill sets such as performing ELISAs, colorimetric analysis, RNA and DNA purification, genotyping and mRNA transcript analysis, etc.

Basic Qualifications

Master's degree and 2 years of scientific experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 4 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's or Masters and 4+ years experience working in a research setting

RVT or LVT certification

Certified by AALAS at the LATG level

Experience leading and performing in-life research studies in rodents

Strong technical skill set to support research studies for various therapeutic areas, such as NAFLD, obesity, diabetes, inflammation, and heart failure

Proficient in basic bio-methodology techniques, anesthesia and physiological monitoring, compound dosing, and sample collection

Skilled in computerized data acquisition, post-acquisition processing and data analysis using analytical & graphic software, and data summarization

Organize information (data, results) and communicate to supervisor or peers

Experience managing veterinary health care in a vivarium, including healthcare management of specialized disease models

Adaptability/flexibility to effectively work in an environment with different lead investigators, changing priorities and urgency for project completion

Highly self-motivated, driven to excel, ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities and projects

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and oral) and the ability to function and collaborate successfully in a matrixed team environment

Experience with in vivo bioluminescence imaging (BLI)

Proven track record of adherence to compliance and animal welfare

Proactive, enthusiastic, show a desire to learn and be a part of busy, highly productive teams
