Position Summary:

The Associate Director, Specialty Trade Relations (ADSTR) is the primary liaison between ACADIA and the companys specialty distribution network. The role will serve as an integral, cross-functional partner responsible for managing and implementing appropriate service/data contracts, evaluating operational effectiveness and problem solving for product dispensed/sold through Specialty Pharmacy (SP) and Specialty Distributor (SD) channels, including any Retail channel opportunities and evolution. This role will serve as the SP and SD and overall Retail knowledge expert, helping to identify and execute strategic business opportunities and channel initiatives with distribution partners.

The ADSTR will identify, intervene and implement initiatives to improve operational outcomes that enhance SP and distribution services and expedite time to dispense. Will provide strategic insight on key marketplace channel dynamics and evaluate competitive activity within the distribution channel. The ADSTR will coordinate with marketing team, sales, managed markets and data analytics departments on educational and operational support specific to strategies and tactics where SPs and SDs and other distributors are involved.

The ADSTR will have 1 direct report and will also support the Senior Director of Specialty Distribution with 3PL management, as needed.

Responsibilities:

Specialty Pharmacy and Specialty Distributor Account Management

  • Collaboratively pulls through ACADIAs SP and SD strategies
  • Manages the day-to-day operational relationships with SP and SD and other distributor partners, including contract adherence
  • Participate and lead regularly scheduled business review meetings with all SP and SD partners and ensure that follow-up is communicated and executed internally and externally
  • Coordinate data management from distribution channel with relevant stakeholders
  • Proactively identifies synergies for improved operational outcomes
  • Stays current with trade channel offerings/opportunities, including emerging e-technology, to assist and improve access to product, reduce time to dispense and ensure patients start and stay on therapy
  • Monitor evolving supply chain models to identify necessary changes or adjustments to the model based upon new product launches, risk mitigation, and/or regulatory and legislative changes
  • Lead in execution of SP and SD and distributor strategies and initiatives
  • Assure procurement of product is set-up per contractual terms and conditions
  • Monitors SP and SD product acquisition/purchases, inventory levels and dispensed SP sales data, reporting and sharing information with customers and key stakeholders
  • Triages any invoicing, credit/rebill issues, as needed
  • Represents ACADIA with key SP associations and customers to solidify ACADIAs presence within the channel
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Contract Management

  • Leads the SP and SD contracting process (all current and future distribution partners) from development to full execution
  • Align with legal and compliance to ensure FMV and that all SP and SD activities impact business objectives favorably and within budget
  • Analyze contract performance for each SP account to identify trends and opportunities

HUB

  • Strong collaboration and alignment with ACADIA HUB managers on HUB and SP communication, training triages processes, problem solving and efficiencies
  • Conduit for day-to-day operational issues between HUB and SP channel to ensure optimal operations between HUB and SPs

Managed Markets

  • Collaboratively communicates updates to SPs on payer coverage and policy updates, to pull through and address PA nuances
  • Communicates the SPs managed care challenges to ACADIA and coordinates with Managed Markets team on resolution

Sales

  • Proactively communicates with Senior Leadership on key opportunities (or issues) in the specialty channel, providing strategic insight on key SP and SD marketplace dynamics and opportunities

Education/Experience/Skills:

Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of relevant education and applicable job experience may be considered. MBA preferred. A minimum of 8 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry in a variety of positions with progressively increasing responsibility including working in specialty distribution and trade relations required, including 4 years in a leadership role. Experience working for a manufacturing company with specialty products, SP providers, or patient services organizations (e.g., The Lash Group, UBC, etc.) required. Requires understanding of financial assistance programs, third-party foundations, patient assistance programs (PAP) and patient support and services HUB operations, and strong familiarity with specialty data aggregators. Preferred experience includes: Long Term Care, Group Purchasing Organizations, Integrated Delivery Networks, program/product launch and Central Nervous System products.

Must possess:

  • Experienced in contract negotiations with distributors
  • Advanced understanding of SP and SD and Retail dynamics and operations
  • Ability to build strategic relationships and problem solve with SP partners and other key internal and external customers
  • Strong project ownership and sense of urgency to deliver best results on time
  • Proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding results and/or other quantitative targets, as well as qualitative goals
  • Previous account management experience required
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Planning and budgeting acumen
  • Ability to influence and negotiate with business partners, management and senior level leaders regarding matters of significance to the organization
  • Adept at creating and communicating a clear vision among team members effectively aligning resources to achieve functional area goals.
  • Excellent analytical capabilities for business presentations and quarterly business reviews
  • Strong technical knowledge including ability to work in Excel, Word and PowerPoint and other like resources necessary to complete job duties
  • Excellent communication, written and verbal/presentation skills in English up, down and across the organization
  • Prior work experience within the SP industry preferred
  • Experience supporting managed care and sales teams preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time

Manages segment to achieve goals in accordance with established policies, meet schedules and resolve problems; may provide direction to and review of, managers, supervisors, or employees. Works on abstract problems that may cross functional areas. Interacts with management on matters concerning functional area. Erroneous decisions will have a serious impact on the overall success of functional area and may impact overall company operations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, see, talk or hear in a standard office environment and independently from remote locations. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Ability to travel by car or airplane independently up to 50% of the time and work after hours if required by travel schedule or business issues. Position can be remote or located in home office.
