About The Job

The selected applicant will join the Schedule Analysis and Infrastructure Planning group which plays a central role in the formulation of our long-term infrastructure strategy in collaboration with several teams inside and outside network planning and leverages the power of analytics to ensure our schedules maximize profitability while meeting operational requirements.


Specifically, you’ll do the following:​


  • Analyze airline operations through developing, maintaining, and enhancing statistical and business models
  • Apply analytical modeling and data optimizing methods using advanced MS Excel to develop and interpret information that assists management with decision making, policy formulation, growth evaluations and financial analyses
  • Evaluate financial impact of changes in block time, Minimum on Ground time (MOGT), Minimum Connect Time (MCT), and other structural inputs in collaboration with Scheduling, Ops Planning & Performance (OPP), Maintenance Planning, and other relevant internal and external teams
  • Develop strategies for reducing congestion at hubs through utilizing alternative fleet deployment techniques or increasing runway utilization
  • Interface with OPP, Maintenance, Corporate Real Estate, Integrated Operations Center (IOC) and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment between operational and financial priorities. Develop schedule KPIs to analyze schedules in order to develop robust schedules that improve connectivity
  • Collaborate with Corporate Real Estate, Financial Planning and others on the development and approval of long term airport infrastructure investment strategies at American's hubs and strategic spokes
  • Develop the documentation, socialization, and maintenance of schedule standards.
  • Facilitate and analyze schedule adjustments that enable successful execution at hub/station level.
  • Coordinate master calendar of schedule production and capacity forecasts in collaboration with the Network Planning and Scheduling team using tools such as AirVision (Sabre) and  Gate Planner



Required Qualifications

  • ​Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline: Operations Research, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent experience/training
  • 2 years experience in airline Network Planning/Scheduling, Revenue Management or analytical field, or Master’s degree in a related field
  • Ability to solve complex problems and puzzles in a constrained and dynamic environment
  • Ability to leverage understanding of the airline business and commercial goals to drive results and innovative solutions
  • Ability to be adaptive to new ideas and business processes in an ever-changing marketplace
  • Ability to challenge self and team to develop future-oriented network strategies
  • Abilty to communicate and collaborate, work with cross-functional groups to drive outcomes which benefit the entire airline
  • Skilled at sharing knowledge to develop the expertise of the team as a whole
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Knowledge of Air Vision Schedule Manager


Preferred Qualifications

  • ​Graduate Degree
  • 2 years experience in modeling, project management, and/or data manipulation at American Airlines
