Being part of the Fuel & Energy Management team, Fuel Operations strives to minimize the cost of the airline's fueling operations while ensuring the integrity, safety, and flexibility necessary to meet operational requirements.  This position provides the critical interface between finance, airport customer service, maintenance, real estate, quality assurance and environmental affairs.  You will also interact with your counterparts from other airlines with the common goal of finding best practices and ensuring the highest quality fuel system for American's operation.   

What you'll do


  • Monitor daily departure delays caused by fueling. Assist Sr. Manager investigating root causes of fueling delays of all stations especially hub locations
  • Negotiate contracts and manage vendors for into-plane fueling services
  • Support Fuel Supply group at locations where fueling services are purchased separately.
  • Submit audit and training request via VSMR database and follow up with QA and Training departments to ensure audit and training are completed before startup or transition date.
  • Work with Accounts Payable to set up new vendor in the system; coordinate with airport operation to plan and facilitate new vendor transition for fueling services
  • Assist Sr. Manager to complete analysis to ensure the Company’s fueling infrastructure requirements are met by working with Airport Authorities, Fuel Facility Owners / Operators, Fuel Service Contractors, Other Airlines and Fueling Consortia
  • Manage fueling service contract database
  • Assist Sr. Manager to manage and develop Company budget for all fuel service fees; investigate and explain variances versus plan to ensure Fuel Finance can explain to senior management; work with accounting / fuel analysts to validate invoices and ensure proper authorization for consortium / into plane contracts
  • Manage Inter-company issues/billing/cost allocations to ensure the best interest of the company are achieved
  • Review regional member status at consortium locations for regional memberships where appropriate quarterly
  • Lead and preside over several small/medium fueling consortiums; manage and select service providers for the effective operation of these consortia; work with service providers to develop annual budget, preparation for annual meetings, and methods used for cost allocations
  • Develop business cases for new infrastructure requirements / systems to be reviewed by consortia and internal management
  • Contribute cross-functionally to support corporate/group objectives

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Engineering, Operations, Procurement, Logistics, or Accounting or equivalent experience/education

  • Frequent travel is required


Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • 3 years’ experience with RFP development, contract negotiations and business case development preferred, familiar with budget process

  • Experience in supply chain or procurement

  • Previous experience in airline operations

  • Vendor negotiation experience is a plus

  • Commitment to quality and pride in work, patience, perseverance, diplomacy

  • Desire to learn and improve and be flexible to fill gaps as requested

  • Ability to understand and manage complex processes


Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Proven project management skills involving multiple departments and/or companies with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Understanding of supply chain concepts

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and present effectively to senior management, other departments, and team members

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
