What you'll do

We are looking for team members who will drive innovation and evolution within our business by delivering new tools and technology to help manage the airline’s business, helping to improve operations and the customer experience.  Financial Analysts support business units by providing analyses and insights to build business cases and proposals in support of investment decisions that can include the need for funding headcount, capital and operating expenses for new projects. 


Financial Analysts are integral to the monthly close process—researching payments, accruing expected expenses, and using variance analysis to explain monthly results. As such, you will use knowledge of basic accounting principles to work through booking expenses to the General Ledger and reconcile Balance Sheet accounts.


Successfully developing relationships and building credibility with internal business partners is key to maximizing the effectiveness of projects and proposals.  Analysts use strong presentation skills to present original, impactful ideas and strategies to senior management while being flexible to take on ad-hoc projects.

In addition you will:


  • Partner with business units on projects to drive strategic and financial results
  • Evaluate competitive strategies and industry trends to determine impact on current or contemplated action plans
  • Develop reports which can lead to informed decisions by business leaders
  • Use financial modeling skills to budget and forecast the operating revenues and expenses for each division within American Airlines
  • Coordinate near and long-term planning activities to ensure consistency and compliance with corporate action plans
  • Coordinate annual capital plan process and track actual and forecasted capital spend on current/future projects
  • Creates business cases and financial analysis for capital proposals in order to secure capital funding
What you'll need for success


Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience/training
  • 2-3 years of related work experience
  • Advanced Excel modeling skills


Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Advanced degree in  Finance, Economics, or Accounting
  • MBA, CFA, or CPA
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Hyperion, and SAP
  • Proficient with Macros/VBA
  • Experience with Tableau or other data visualization and business intelligence tools
Skills, Licenses & Certifications


  • Superior analytical skills with an understanding of discounted cash flow analysis, forecasting techniques and variance analysis
  • Capacity to assimilate, synthesize, and analyze, large volumes of data
  • Adaptable with the ability to work effectively in changing situations
  • Ability to accept ownership, responsibility and accountability of functional obligations
  • Proven success in a team environment and ability to influence change
  • Self-starter, able to prioritize tasks, work well with little supervision, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to create and deliver PowerPoint presentations to all levels within the organization including Vice President and above
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with all levels of the organization
