About The Job

This position is for an analyst on our USPS and Foreign Post accounting team. This position will be responsible for all aspects of accounting activity related to the carriage of US mail between American airlines Cargo and the Unites States Postal Service, as well as mail tendered to AA outside the US by foreign postal administrations. This position is deeply involved in the development and use of IT systems related to mail accounting. This is a high visibility position with analysis and responsibilities that will directly affect the P/L for the cargo division. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail is a must.


Specifically, you’ll do the following:

  • Revenue Recognition and Accruals for USPS mail
  • Receivable maintenance
  • Reconciliation of domestic and international payments
  • Weekly and monthly audits of account activity
  • Cash application
  • Discrepancy resolution
  • Coordination of claims to the USPS for unpaid activity
  • Extensive analysis of payables to other airlines subcontracted by American Airlines to carry USPS mail under the American Airlines contract as well as audit of invoices from these carriers to American Airlines
  • Generate payments to subcontracted carriers often exceeding $1.5MM per month
  • Serve as a liaison to individuals of all levels within other departments including cargo operations, cargo revenue management, cargo finance and local accounting offices
  • Interact with outside parties including the United States Post Office, Country Controller offices, Foreign Postal Administrations and third party vendors for American Airlines
  • Various ad hoc projects as assigned


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent work experience is required
  • Strong data mining skills as well as very strong skills in Microsoft Access and/or other database systems
  • Team player with strong interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills
  • Aptitude for problem solving with strong analytical and accounting skills
  • Ability to logically structure analysis of complex issues and develop creative solutions to challenges


Preferred Qualifications

  • ​Knowledge of SQL and MySQL is a PLUS
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel, SAP and SABRE a plus
