Position: MCAD FutureReady: Teens and Digital Design Program Coordinator

The Minneapolis College of Art and Design seeks a part-time temporary Program Coordinator for a new initiative, the MCAD FutureReady Teens and Digital Design program.

Program Description: MCAD FutureReady: Teens and Digital Design is a program which empowers Minneapolis youth to develop 21st Century skills in web design and development and user experience (UX) supporting them to envision and realize a path to future employment as well as educational and entrepreneurial opportunities. The program also helps students cultivate important soft skills that are central to a productive and meaningful creative life.

The program will consist of a 10-week class, running on Saturdays, offered twice per year (January through mid-March and April through mid-June. The program is a partnership with three Minneapolis Public Schools (FAIR, Roosevelt, and Wellstone) to serve a diverse high school student population. Each student will receive a $500 stipend to incentivize active engagement, participation, and success.

Primary Function: The program coordinator is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the program and serving as the first point of contact for students; the instructor; MCAD staff, high-school teachers; and volunteers from Best Buy.

Specific duties include:

  • During the fall, in partnership with Continuing Education staff, coordinate the recruitment and enrollment of students in the program.
  • Assist with planning for the two 10-week sessions, including organizing details such as purchasing Metro Transit cards; arranging with Payroll for student stipends; creation of related materials (name tags, class lists, etc.).
  • During the class sessions, arrange lunches with MCAD Dining Services and serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers from Best Buy to present on student success related topics over lunch. Arrange for AV support as needed.
  • Work with the MCAD FutureReady Instructor and Teaching Assistants to ensure student participation and success in the program.
  • Serve as a mentor and establish a positive tone for students. Communicate expectations for success in the program and communicate any issues to Continuing Education staff.
  • Maintain communication with the Continuing Education office regarding any program or class needs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


This position is temporary and will consist of approximately 60 hours. The hours will consist of planning time in the fall (flexible hours) and on-site coordination during the spring while the program is in session (Saturday afternoons). Pay is $31/hour for a total contract amount of $1860.

Required qualifications:

Experience working with high school students.

Experience working in a higher education environment.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Passion for arts education and/or working with teens.

Passion for creating positive, accessible learning environments for all students.

Energetic with excellent organizational skills.

Excellent relationship-building skills.

Ability to problem solve creatively and strategically.

Proficiency with Google Docs, Spreadsheets, and Forms.

Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills required.
