Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Staff Geotechnical Engineer-in-Training to be based in Murray, UT.

This position is expected to begin in December 2021.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide geotechnical engineering and design support for dams, levees, highways, mines, buildings, and other projects

  • Conduct field exploration, collect samples, analyze data and review geotechnical samples for laboratory testing.

  • Perform construction observation/reporting for civil infrastructure projects including dams, foundations, grading, ground improvement, and mining projects.

  • Develop tangible engineering design skills through periodic field experience. This may include construction support (verification of design implementation, adherence to quality, contractor/owner engagement), site inspections, and geotechnical investigations. Also provide construction support from the office by adapting designs to field conditions.

  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and figures

  • Perform geotechnical analyses and design, prepare engineering reports, plans and specifications

  • Perform assignments requiring the application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities

  • Exercise judgment limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives

  • Work under the supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

  • Demonstrate ability to build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues

  • Develop material properties for soil and rock and evaluate the stability of slopes and foundations

  • Prepare drafts of portions of technical proposals, reports, regulatory agency permits, as well as less complex external and internal documents.

  • Coordinate and integrate geotechnical evaluation results into civil design through collaboration with other geotechnical, structural, mechanical, and electrical design professionals and engineers.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Geotechnical engineering, Engineering Geology, or Geological Engineering

  • Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills

  • Proficiency working in Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam

  • Masters degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, or Geological Engineering

  • Up to three years of experience.

  • Experience conducting field explorations

  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team of civil engineers, geotechnical engineers, and geologists

  • Familiarity working in the following programs: gINT, Settle3, VisualBasic, SlopeW, SeepW, Slide, AutoCAD, UTexas, WEAP
