SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Sr Manager Performance Management role will be responsible for leading a data driven approach towards managing performance. This approach will have 4 primary areas of focus:Creating/maintaining our analytical toolkits, creating business processes to monitor performance, leading matrix initiatives to address performance opportunities and leading ad-hoc analysis.


Initially the role will lead the team to build our analytical foundation with a focus on data aggregation, analytic tools selection and creating reports focused on data sense making that heavily utilize data visualization. With the foundation in place, the leader will pivot towards performance management of the business. In leading this function, the role will utilize management tools such as benchmarking, comparable, and driver disaggregation to identify areas of opportunity. Once the areas of opportunity are identified the role will be responsible for ensuring internal stakeholders have problem awareness and have the support needed to remedy. When resources are not available to address the problem, this role may function as a lightweight project manager ensuring we drive solutions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Direct and oversee the creation of the departmental data foundation, this will require expertise on multiple datasets across ops, commercial and finance
  • Oversee the development of repository of self-service performance reports for a variety of stakeholders
  • Strategically enhance performance by reviewing improvement opportunities, determine ownership to address performance opportunities to lead the solution
  • Facilitate performance management sessions ensuring the subject matter experts have awareness, alignment, and a path to address
  • Direct and oversee the ad-hoc analysis as needed some of which may address business opp. vs. performance opp.
  • Collaborates with senior managers system-wide to facilitate the movement of the SSSL plan
  • Partners with internal departments such as Operations, Planning, Marketing, Terminal Operations, and maintenance facilities as appropriate.
  • Directs a team of 2-3 performance managers, including at least 1 with SQL, Python/R skill set

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree required OR equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 9-12 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Strong experience in analytical role and create analytical models
  • Experience solving business problems with data visualization
  • Experience setting strategy that incorporates the performance management discipline
  • Extensive experience working directly with 3rd party stakeholders, and internal customers
  • Strong strategic and analytical skill set
  • Leadership experience in strategic environment
  • Experience evaluating operational information from corporate and market data repositories
  • Collaborative work style and experience in working with cross-functional teams and numerous stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to prepare and make effective presentations to senior leadership
  • Ability to effectively facilitate change and innovation and communicate complex concepts at all levels
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and experience in data analysis
  • Data and technical fluency enabling effective communication with IT stakeholders
  • Advance knowledge in Excel and experience writing SQL
  • Ability to train and develop team member data management and data analysis skill set
  • Ability to create, specify and communicate clear business problem statements
  • Experience creating an approach / framework for addressing complex problems
  • Strong analytical skill set to identify root causes and shared organizational understanding
  • Ability to leverage strengths of subject matter experts to synthesize information and create solutions
  • Highly skilled communicator, that will utilize a variety of written and verbal mediums to drive alignment towards a shared vision
  • Highly skilled interpersonal skills will work across internal and external stakeholders who have expertise in all aspects of passenger rail
  • Strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with demonstrated strengths managing multiple projects simultaneously and driving them to completion.
  • Proven skills at cultivating strong working relationships and driving collaboration across multiple business and technical teams.
  • Proven influencing skills; able to work with various business partners who may have competing goals while maintaining productive relationships.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA
  • 12+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • Years of work experience to include
  • 5+ years of experience in an analytical role
  • 5+ years of experience creating analytical models
  • 5+ years of experience solving business problems
  • 3+ years of experience with data visualization
  • 3+ years of experience working with 3rd party stakeholders
  • 3+ years of experience leading a team
  • 3+ years of experience managing across divisions
  • Experience with data visualization tools a plus


COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
