Accountabilities / Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care to ensure the safety of the patient.
  • Directs and assists in carrying out safe aseptic & sterile techniques and procedures.
  • To perform various tasks as an OR circulator, Preop Nurse and Post op Nurse
  • Assumes responsibility that the OR is prepared room for the patient and procedure.
  • Assist in transporting patient to O.R. and checks patient record for a appropriate pre-op preparation and procedures.
  • Verifies that appropriate surgical prep is completed.
  • Completes documentation for O.R. records, laboratory requisitions, and patient chart including medications and physician orders.
  • Supervises and assists with the proper, safe positioning of the patient.
  • Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts and documentation of same.
  • Takes ownership for all surgical specimens properly.
  • Secures emergency equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Provides assistance to teammates, surgeons, and anesthesia.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Good communication skills that promote safe patient care.

  • Knowledgeable of the policy and procedure of the facility.
  • Utilize specialized nursing knowledge, nursing process and discriminative judgement while giving direct or indirect patient care.
  • Recognize legal and policy limits of individual practice.
  • Recognize the importance of teamwork. Utilizes time effectively.
  • Respects patient's right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Provides a safe, efficient, and supportive patient environment.
  • Assesses physical and emotional needs of the patient and implements appropriate nursing interventions.
  • Applies appropriate leadership skills in directing non-professional clinical personnel.
  • Remains cognizant of health care costs.
  • Maintains accurate records of controlled substances.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service programs.
  • Actively participates on nursing and facility committees.
  • Complies with all administrative, medical and nursing policies and procedures.
  • Reports and completes appropriate forms for Risk Management to patient, visitors and employees.
  • Reports to DON needed repairs or maintenance of equipment or building. In the absence of the DON notify the appropriate repair services and follow up to be certain problem is resolved.
  • Participates in quarterly inventory and monthly department review of outdates on medications and equipment.
  • Takes responsibility for organization and neatness of the work area.
  • Knowledgeable of and complies with the Infection Control Plan.
  • Receives and documents physician orders.
  • Knowledgeable of medical staff privileges.
  • Competent and responsive to emergency situations (i.e. cardiac arrest, malignant hyperthermia, drug reaction, internal or external disaster etc).
  • Has successfully completed required competencies required of position.
  • Demonstrates the importance of continuing education to the performance of facility responsibilities and growth in profession.
  • Interacts with all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees in a mature responsible manner to ensure a positive and professional surgery center environment.
  • Follow established surgery center policies and procedures with regard to attendance.
  • Participate in the Corporate Compliance and HIPPA Program


Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Currently licensed to practice in the state.
  • Must have American Heart Association basic life support (BLS) certification
  • ACLS certification and or obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Two years related nursing experience in critical care, operating room, PACU, ambulatory care or endoscopy.
  • Good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Skilled inserting and managing IV lines.
