The Quality Assurance Manager is a member of the site leadership team responsible for ensuring products manufactured at the site are safe, wholesome and comply with all applicable Balchem, customer and regulatory requirements. They will support and coach the site team in developing and maintaining a culture of best in class Quality through their influence and coaching. The QM is responsible for supporting and optimizing site quality operations and practices through effective data analysis and decision making.


  • Direct leadership of the site operational Quality and Quality Control lab employees
  • Manage and supervise QC laboratory activities and laboratory personnel, coordinating daily work activities and overseeing instrument calibration and preventative maintenance programs; ensure compliance with written procedures
  • Development and oversight of employee training in cGMPs, HACCP, HARPC, and annual refresher training for all employees; will coordinate hiring, training and scheduling for core quality and food safety competencies
  • Coordinates with the Plant and Operations Managers to ensure that products are manufactured in accordance with industry and regulatory standards for quality and food safety
  • Review and approval of all specifications, procedures, test methods, and labeling
  • Oversight of completed batch record review, product release and issuance of Certificates of Analysis
  • Oversight of site Customer Complaint Program
  • Champion effective Root Cause Analysis and provide oversight of the Corrective & Preventative Action Program. Includes review and approval of all investigations related to Out-Of-Specification Results, Non-Conforming Material Reviews, and Batch Deviations
  • Issuance of the Annual Quality Review
  • Support corporate Supplier Approval Program for raw materials and direct contact packaging
  • Develop and lead site internal audit program and take a leadership role in external audits by customers and regulatory or certifying bodies (including FDA, State, SQF, etc.); ensure timely audit responses and corrective/ preventive actions for all findings
  • Champion continuous improvement and best practice programs for site
  • Oversight of Change Control and, when appropriate, Customer Notification
  • Accountable for the site Food Safety and HACCP programs
  • Provide support for regulatory registrations (FDA for food, dietary ingredients and animal feed registrations), and kosher/halal certifications
  • Act as site SQF Practitioner; responsible ensuring the site maintains programs and documentation necessary to support the development, implementation, maintenance and control of the SQF System
  • Responsible for escalating major quality issues and any incidents affecting food safety to Balchem leadership
  • Uses effective negotiation skills to resolve conflict and drive alignment
  • Provides coaching and constructive feedback in a timely manner
  • Works effectively with team and cross functional partners


  • Bachelor's and/or master's degree in Food Science or related discipline with three to five years of experience in quality management and experience supervising a Quality Control laboratory
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within the field
  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of cGMP for Food as well as good laboratory practices, testing methodologies and manufacturing practices
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and organize technical data for communications and analysis, working knowledge of Statistical Process Control and process capability
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills and possess good interpersonal skills
  • Must be an effective communicator, possess good listening skills and have effective presentation skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to make sound decisions based on data
  • The ideal candidate possesses certifications in HACCP/HARPC, and SQF; and training in environmental monitoring, auditing and statistical process control. Better Process School certification preferred as well as experience with drying, pasteurization, LACF and acidified foods


  • Work involves standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, repetitive motion and moving, lifting or pushing objects weighing up to 55 pounds
  • Operate various laboratory instruments as required
  • Manufacturing environment
