Professor, Nursing Simulation Lab - Central Campus

  • Assists faculty to plan, implement and evaluate the integration of simulation into curriculum to promote student learning, critical thinking and clinical decision making.
  • Collaborates with faculty to develop simulation scenarios to promote student learning, critical thinking and clinical decision making.
  • Manage and direct simulation activities for the SJCC Allied Health programs.
  • Collaborate with course faculty to plan, implement, and evaluate course curriculum.
  • Facilitates faculty development related to use of simulation.
  • Maintain close communication with course faculty regarding progress of students in simulation experiences.
  • Participate in curriculum development, review, and revision as it pertains to simulated clinical laboratory experiences.
  • Maintain, inventory, and order lab supplies and equipment for classes to be taught in the simulated clinical laboratory.
  • Provides oversight for the coordination and scheduling for the use of the simulation lab
  • Maintains and ensures proper function of all simulation manikins and other simulation equipment.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for students (open lab and tutoring) and remediates (class/clinical) using simulation.
  • Participate in Program and College Faculty Committee meetings as assigned.
  • Keep informed about major trends and innovations in clinical practice as it relates to topics taught in the simulated clinical laboratory.
  • Pre-program the simulation manikin software for specific scenario parameters and idiosyncrasies in consultation with course faculty.
  • Collaborates with health science faculty within the division to promote interdisciplinary simulation learning experiences.
  • Seeks opportunities for funding through grants and partnerships with other educational and health care delivery agencies.
  • Conducts clinical simulation lab experiences as necessary based on student needs - this may include weekends and evening offerings.
  • Maintain professional competence and licensure through practice, continuing education, and professional activities.
  • Train allied health faculty to run the high fidelity manikins, how to develop scenarios and conduct debriefing.
  • Serves as liaison with area health care facilities of the regarding practice policy changes that impact simulation environment.
  • Coordinates implementation of those changes into simulation when possible.
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and innovation and planning change initiatives for the integration of simulation in clinical education.
  • Participates in recruitment and public relation activities of the school of nursing and campus and any special projects related to simulation.
  • Develop partnerships with clinical affiliates to offer training opportunities for their staff (based on availability of sim lab).

Required Education:
  • MSN

Required Certifications/Licenses:
  • Registered Nurse (RN), with current unencumbered license in the State of Texas.
  • Current in American Heart Association CPR Health Care Provider.

Required Experience:
  • Hospital clinical experience, preferably in med/surgical/ICU; 2 years or more.
  • Prefer some experience in nursing education, staff education & training, or continuing education.
  • Previous documented (work history/ formal education- workshops, seminars, etc.) extensive experience with high fidelity manikins - programing, maintaining and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with writing and evaluating scenarios.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

The Clinical Simulation Lab Faculty must hold a minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and be a Registered Nurse (RN), currently licensed in the State of Texas. As a practicing Registered Nurse and adjunct to the ADN faculty, the Clinical Simulation Lab Faculty must be current in Healthcare Provider CPR (within last 2 years & renewable every 2 years, per American Heart Association Standards), be current on immunizations, and have a TB skin test annually.

Work Hours:
  • Twelve\r\n(12) months, Thirty-five 35/hours week position.
  • Available\r\nto work , mornings, evenings and\r\nweekends
