Java / Big Data Software Engineer

Job Description

As a member of Alerts Team you will be working on ensuring that Chase customers receive their digital communications in timely manner and according to their preferences. You will be working on insuring that production issues are resolved, work on remediating defects in code and stored procedures, and on implementing new requirements. You’ll be tasked with keeping the team and other key stakeholders up to speed on the progress of what’s being developed. And best of all, you’ll be working with and sharing ideas, information and innovation with our global team of technologists from all over the world.



This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:

  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience
  • Advanced knowledge of application, data and infrastructure architecture disciplines
  • Understanding of architecture and design across all systems  
  • Working proficiency in developmental toolsets 
  • Knowledge of industry wide technology trends and best practices  
  •  Ability to work in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals, and passionate about building an innovative culture  
  •  Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Java 
  • Understanding of software skills such as business analysis, development, maintenance and software improvement 
  • Demonstrated experience in software engineering, preferably in the financial industry, to include experience building and supporting mission-critical, 24/7 applications
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages (understanding of futures, promises, reactive programming) including strong experience with server side programming (Java 8 preferred, however combination of Java with C/C#/python is acceptable), a strong understanding of high-throughput applications (message processing, high TPS web-services), experience with Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Kafka), and experience with performance monitoring and testing
  • Experience utilizing Kafka and NoSQL technologies; Cassandra, Spark, and Hadoop experience preferred
  • Experience writing performant SQL code/stored procedures (Oracle/Sybase/SQLServer)
  • Experience with messaging technologies – WebSphere MQ/JMS, RabbitMQ
  • Experience with code testability standards including JUnit/Mockito, Cucumber integration
  • Experience with scripting and working in a Linux environment
  • Proficiency with GIT
  • Understanding of Email, Text (SMS) and Push technologies is a plus
