Membership and Operations Coordinator

SmithBucklin, a 100 percent employee-owned association management company, is looking for a Membership Development Coordinator to join our Business + Trade Industry Practice in Chicago. Representing the majority of our client organizations, the Business + Trade team helps associations create value for the members by delivering strategy and thought leadership, networking opportunities, commerce solutions, education and certification, and advocacy and promotion.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as the point person for all membership-related duties and inquiries
  • Expand new membership and hold a minimum 80 percent retention rate of existing membership
  • Track progress with prospects and leads, communicate successes and failures
  • Ensure new and existing members are signed up for benefits, including listservs and PS Magazine
  • Maintain prospect database (Hubspot) and manage new member information (YM)
  • Manage Supplier Referral requests via email and telephone
  • Own membership year-round engagement plan and ensure communication timelines
  • Coordinate and engage membership committee / board / senior staff team members at appropriate times to drive membership sales
  • Develop an understanding of new member segments and growth opportunities
  • Network at industry-related tradeshows and conferences in order to generate new member interest

  • You have the ability to travel approximately 15-20%, both domestically and internationally

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution
  • 3-5 years of experience within a nonprofit or association, to include development experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Membership development and tradeshow experience is a plus
  • Database experience and website editing skills is a plus
  • Supervisory experience is a plus
  • Proficiency with basic computer programming, including the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
