Position Summary

Rosalind Franklin University Health Clinics is seeking to fill a full-time Medical Assistant/Patient Service Representative position in its Libertyville location. This position requires duties associated with operating a reception desk and Medical Assisting for the providers.

The MA/PSR is responsible for assisting physicians with patient care, greeting patients, scheduling patient appointments, answering phones and managing the provider schedule. The MA/PSR must be an effective communicator.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Greeting patients in polite, prompt, helpful manner.
  • Fulfill patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, blood draws, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
  • Fulfill clerical/administrative responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and charting to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
  • Fulfill environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  • Coordinate and schedule appointments.
  • Answer phones in pleasant and timely manner and deal with patient needs expeditiously.
  • Utilize computer system to generate information necessary for billing.
  • Update patient information, collect copays, provide and assist with any necessary forms needing completion and obtain signatures as necessary.
  • Maintain clean, orderly waiting area and oversee coordination of patient movement, report issues or irregularities.

Required Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of medical assisting program.
  • Customer service experience.
  • One year medical assistant experience.
  • Maintain BLS certification
  • Must achieve satisfactory results from a background check

  • Exemplary skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communication.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in person, on the phone, and establish cooperative relationships with patients.
  • Ability to work/interact with diverse populations, showing respect and sensitivity for cultural differences.
  • Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical specialty.
  • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
  • Skill in performing tasks appropriately.
  • Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
  • Ability to project a pleasant and professional image.
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete delegated tasks.
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate techniques when helping patients ambulate and dress and the ability to handle stressful situations are required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bi-lingual
