Purpose of Position

Develop and manage the UT System Wellness program to encourage all employees, retirees and dependents to reach their potential and maintain the productivity necessary to meet the challenges of work and life.

 Essential Functions
  • Provide leadership in the development, implementation and evaluation of University of Texas System worksite health and wellness programs to improve health behaviors and outcomes.
  • Establish wellness program goals, objectives, and strategies; develop and implement services and programs to accomplish goals.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase members’ (employee, retiree, and dependents) awareness of health issues including the development of education material, review and recommend prepared publications and develop and provide information for website.
  • Work collaboratively with the 13 University of Texas institutions to reach System and institution-specific goals; manage institution grant program by reviewing proposals and awarding and tracking funds; support on-site activities including health fairs, biometric screenings, and presentations.
  • Create and collaborate with University of Texas System institutions and vendor partners in program measurement tools, evaluate the effectiveness of wellness programs, evaluate results, review plan trends associated with wellness, evaluate marketplace, and continuously assesses success of programs.
  • Manage vendor partner contracts, including procurement, contract monitoring, reporting, and budgeting.
  • Other duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of a broad range of wellness and fitness topics and a commitment to wellness and the promotion of life learning. Keep professionally current in health, wellness, and fitness research.
  • Ability to establish relationships with institutions wellness leaders to promote participation in sponsored programs, and to motivate them to set and reach health goals.
  • Ability to display professionalism when dealing with employees and outside vendors.
  • Ability to conduct benchmarking analysis, and environment and culture assessments to aid in program development.
  • Ability to act as a liaison to gather ideas and sponsor events (such as an annual Benefits Fair).
  • Create an environment that provides positive and collaborative relationships within the program.
  • Ability to maintain confidential documents and information and keep abreast of HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to integrate wellness/fitness program initiatives into culture and organizational mission.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in public health, health education or a related field and seven years of experience coordinating an employee health and wellness program.

Preferred Qualifications

Five years of experience managing an employee health and wellness program. Master’s degree in public health, health education or related field.

Working Conditions

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

  • 10% Travel

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
