We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy.

The Manager, Donor Acquisition assists in developing, and is responsible for implementing, acquisition strategies across all offline and online fundraising channels. The manager implements associated tactical executions, assists in creating the budget and ensures that programs adhere to budget, develops key reporting systems and contributes to direct response growth objectives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Duties)

Program Creation and Execution:

  • Partner with Development leaders to establish goals and plans for acquisition campaigns and lead their execution.*
  • Collaborate with internal colleagues to deliver a highly optimized and integrated donor acquisition program across all direct response channels.*
  • Lead the internal creative approval process; recommend enhancements to internal processes.*
  • Recommend, develop, manage and pilot new acquisition channel investment efforts.*

Vendor Management:

  • Manages creative agencies to develop integrated donor acquisition strategies.*
  • Ensure work quality and service levels provided by vendors and subcontractors meet expectations.*
  • Direct Statement of Work creation, amendment and extension periods, and manage contract processes.*
  • Ensure compliance to regulatory processes.*

Budget Management:

  • Assist supervisor in creation of annual donor acquisition budgets.*
  • Manage annual revenue and expense planning, budgeting, and reforecasting efforts for acquisition campaigns.*
  • Manage monthly accruals and revenue and expense reconciliation processes.*
  • Review and approve agency budget systems and input into USO systems for approvals.*

Reporting & Analysis:

  • Benchmark and assess acquisition campaign performance. Make recommendations where appropriate.*
  • Build and maintain fiscal year revenue and donor file projections.*
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications or related field.
  • 5-7 years of work experience in an integrated direct response fundraising role.
  • Multiyear mail planning experience including alternate media, list management, segmentation planning, revenue and expense modeling.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards governing direct mail, solicitation and telemarketing operations.
  • Experience working with creative agencies, printers, caging facilities, and knowledge of bulk, non-profit and business reply mail operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of web publishing technologies, digital marketing tools, website analytics platforms and social media channels.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with USO Leadership, the general public and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.
  • Working knowledge of basic business and accounting functions including project management and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated initiative/self-motivation, with the ability to quickly and easily adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Proficiency using computers and electronics equipment. Working knowledge of various software, applications, and programs including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain proper credentials necessary to access USO Center locations and facilities including but not limited to security, credit and/or background screening, SOFA status, valid driver's license.
  • Must be a strong advocate of the USO's mission to lift the spirits of America's troops and their families.


  • This position is located in Arlington, VA. Preference will be given to local candidates within commuting distance to the location. Relocation assistance or remote working arrangements may be considered for highly qualified candidates.
