The Laboratory Manager, reporting to the Director of Applied Science & Research and working in our corporate headquarters will spend 50% or more of their time working directly on projects. They have direct responsibility for supervision and management for all aspects of the SGH Waltham laboratory, including staffing, quality, safety, accreditation, certifications, standards of practice, and on-time and on-budget delivery of services.

What Youll Be Doing:

• Manage, direct, and mentor the laboratory staff (currently 10 staff).
• Recruit and train laboratory staff; ensures that all staff have appropriate certifications and credentials.
• Assist Director of Applied Science & Research in preparation of strategic plans for laboratory services at SGH; ensures execution of that plan as it pertains to the laboratory.
• Lead preparation and execution of annual plans and budgets for laboratory services.
• Assist with the preparation and execution of internal and external marketing plans for laboratory services.
• Coordinate overall workload for on-time and on-budget delivery of services; accepts and assigns incoming work.
• Manage individual laboratory projects and tasks.
• Manage all laboratory and field equipment (total inventory), including maintenance, calibrations, service, and placements in other offices.
• Ensures laboratory performs to corporate standards of practice and quality; primary quality sign-off for laboratory projects and tasks, and potentially laboratory projects and tasks from other office laboratories.

What Youll Need:

• 8+ years of experience managing multiple staff working on diverse tasks in a small-team project environment. Construction, laboratory, or multi-faceted materials testing laboratory preferred.
• BS in Engineering, Materials Science, or Project Management preferred
• Strong management and leadership skills.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Must have a valid drivers license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
