  • The Investigator/Sr Investigator, Flight Safety reports to the Manager, Flight Safety Investigations and functions as a member of the Flight Safety Accident/Incident Investigation Team. In that capacity, the Investigator/Sr Investigator, Flight Safety will back up the Manager, Flight Safety Investigations for all Flight Safety investigations and NTSB on call duties. 

What you'll do

  • Reviews operational reports to identify incidents and irregularities requiring follow-up investigation.
  • Conducts internal and external investigations and analysis of operational events and provides investigative analysis and responses to internal AA departments, as well as the NTSB, FAA, and other agencies, as applicable.
  • Assists the ASAP programs with investigations, irregularities and trends identified through the programs and provide briefings to the ASAP ERC of investigative findings and recommendations.
  • Produces, presents, and tracks flight safety investigation team analysis reports and corrective action plans to diverse audiences, including assisting in the facilitation of monthly SMS meetings.
  • Identifies trends and Flight Safety concerns arising from the ASAP program.
  • Interfaces with other departments as necessary for research or information sharing purposes.
  • Assists the Flight ASAP team in processing Flight ASAP reports and assists in tracking data and analysis for the weekly Flight ASAP Event Review Committee (ERC) meetings.
  • Administrates the Flight Safety Go-Team including training, inventory, and execution of responsibilities assigned by the Manager Flight Safety & Investigations as well as the Emergency Planning and Response Flight Safety Departmental Resource Guide.
  • Assists the Manager, Air Safety Investigations when acting as the American Airlines Party Coordinator during NTSB and other regulatory entities during domestic and/or international investigations.
  • Must be able to travel worldwide on short notice and serve in a 24/7 on-call status.

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation Safety, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of related experience

 

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Completion of an accredited training course in safety that includes accident investigation procedures and techniques
  • 4 years of related experience

 

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Commercial Pilot, Dispatcher, and/or A&P certificate
  • Must posses and maintain a valid US passport
  • Understanding of the operational departments of a Part 121 major air carrier, including Flight Operations, Technical Operations, Flight Service, Airport Customer Service, and Emergency Response
  • Understanding of the role of an aviation safety department at a Part 121 major air carrier
  • Possess a detailed understanding of NTSB accident/incident investigation procedures and techniques
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively investigate major air carrier accidents and incidents
  • Ability to write clear and concise technical reports and articles
  • Ability to work effectively with fellow employees as well as outside agencies and organization
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and sensitive information
  • Must be skilled in the use of MS Office (with advanced skills in Excel and PowerPoint), SABRE, CERS, and WBAT, Tableau or similar complex database system
  • Well-organized and able to prioritize tasks and manage crisis situations
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Must possess outstanding decision-making abilities, organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include the use of common database, presentation and word processing software
