The Architecture Sr Group Manager manages multiple teams through other managers. In-depth understanding of how own sub-function contributes to achieving the objectives of the function. A good understanding of the industry, direct competitors' products and services, is also necessary in order to contribute to the commercial objectives of the business. Requires thorough understanding of strategic direction of the function within the relevant part of the business, combined with a solid conceptual/practical grounding in both the function and/or area of expertise and related subject areas. Excellent communication skills required in order to negotiate internally, often at a senior level. Some external communication/negotiation may be necessary. Responsible for executing functional strategy in area managed. Determines approach to implementing functional strategy. Accountable for end results, budgeting, planning, policy formulation and contribution to future strategy of the area(s). Impact reflects size of team managed, strategic influence on the business and interaction with other functions or businesses. Full management responsibility for multiple teams, including management of people, budget and planning, to include duties such as performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations and budget approval. May be doing involved or responsible for diverse (cross-discipline) activities. Typically, a direct report to a C16 role and function as an intergral member of the functional leadership team within a country/site location, job family, or line of business.


+ Manages an architecture functional area.

+ Evaluates subordinates' performance and makes recommendations for pay increases, promotions, terminations and other personnel actions.

+ Responsible for providing architectural vision for all IT systems, ensuring that architecture conforms to enterprise blueprints.

+ Develops architecture, strategy, planning, and problem solving solutions on an enterprise level. Interfaces across several channels, acting as a visionary to proactively assist in defining direction for future projects.

+ Maintains continuous awareness of business, technical and infrastructure issues and acts as a sounding board or consultant to aid in the development of creative solutions.

+ Interfaces with vendors to assess their technology and to guide their product roadmap based on Citi requirements.

+ Exhibits sound understanding of theories and practices in architecture and multiple related areas.

+ Has in depth knowledge of how technology integrates within the organization and of direct competitors products and services.

+ Requires evaluative judgment based on analysis of factual information in complicated or novel situations; uses multiple sources of information.

+ Impacts the overall technology function through responsibility for planning, finances/budget, end results, setting policies and contribution to strategic decisions.

+ Influences and negotiates with senior leaders (across functions); may communicate and negotiate with external parties.

**Team/Position Overview**

The Global Functions Technology (GFT) Engineering and Architecture Practice (EAP) is a newly created organization which focuses on ensuring architectural cohesion and delivering common, cross-functional capabilities for our Line of Business Technology organizations (Finance, Risk, Compliance and Human Resources). The GFT EAP reports jointly into the Head of Global Functions Technology and the CTO for Enterprise Operations & Technology.

Within GFT EAP, there is the Technology Architecture (Strategy) team. The roles in that team are equal parts strategist, execution driver and change agent. This position requires a senior candidate with exceptional technical, leadership and communication abilities.

The role will report directly to the GFT Head of Technology Architecture.

**Key Responsibilities:**

The role will include, but not limited to the following:

+ Work across the GFT Technology teams to establish core cross-business Technology strategy across internal / public Cloud, Common Platform, and core Developer Capabilities

+ Synthesize a broad portfolio of diverse technical demand into an executable plan and establish the necessary engineering teams, relationships, and processes to drive efficient technical delivery

+ Drive to accelerate public cloud adoption and associated emerging technology solutions (Kubernetes, Docker) while ensuring that we minimize operational risk

+ Partnering with technology and Engineering teams across Citi to create an environment that provides an optimal Developer Experience for the GFT developers, from IDE and CI/CD through to IaaS provisioning and Cloud Native Service on-boarding frameworks.

+ Foster a culture of innovation and engineering excellence across the Enterprise: modern engineering practices, adoption of open source and open standards, creating a culture of collaboration and efficiency

+ Develop robust business architecture practices and processes that ensure the Engineering and Architecture practice are helping the business determine disruptive strategies to improve.

+ Establish consistent architectural governance to validate that strategic investments are being made that will move the technology portfolio towards the agreed target state.

+ Define the environment on which all software solutions (applications, platforms and related services) runs, including, hardware, networks and middleware; ensures resilience, scale and security.

+ Sharing deep subject matter expertise in at least one of cloud, networking, storage, ETL, caching and messaging solutions

**Experience and Skills**

+ Deep expertise as a hands-on technical leader working on complex systems in a large organization

+ Has achieved or is on the path for Tech Fellow / Distinguished Engineer and/or equivalent titles

+ Experience driving software delivery transformation through Agile practice and process, with a focus of establishing Continuous Delivery culture and process

+ Expertise in Cloud platforms and associated Developer Toolchains, DevOps models, and best practice


+ Exceptional communicator who loves working with people, confident communicating at all levels from an individual team to the entire enterprise

+ Highly credible software developer, confident to deep dive into any teams practice and process and offer detailed, constructive feedback

+ Well-developed technical written communication skills and able to effectively use internal social media platforms to communicate across the group
