Position Summary

To develop, implement and evaluate ongoing HR policies, procedures, functions, and activities. Ensure that Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio and its subsidiaries are in full compliance with current employment laws and regulations. The Director of Human Resources (DHR) will partner with the Leadership Team to define, create, and lead agency-wide talent and development efforts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and committed leaders and managers capable of supporting a foundation for growth and success.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with agency leaders to understand organization's goals and strategy related to staffing, recruitment, and retention, and to foster a culture of accountability, trust, recognition, and results among staff at all levels
  • Leads the organizations' employee engagement and retention initiatives to increase organizational, departmental, and individual performance.
  • Oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave, to ensure cost-effectiveness, market competiveness, and internal equity; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale (i.e., United Way campaign events, staff holiday celebration, awards, etc.); occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Develop, prepare, generate, and analyze ongoing and ad-hoc special reports pertaining to employee personnel information and data, including but not limited to issues such as benefit costs, staffing levels/deployment, turnover, absenteeism, recruitment, Affirmative Action/EEO, compensation, promotions, etc.
  • In collaboration with Chief Operating Officer, builds a comprehensive diversity and inclusion strategy and ensures justice, equity, diversity and inclusion as core competencies throughout the organization.
  • Guides and monitors the progress of high potential employees and identifies positions that provide quality developmental opportunities. Fosters a culture that integrates succession planning across the organization.
  • Maintain and expand knowledge and understanding of existing and proposed federal and state laws/regulations and industry best practices affecting human resources management. Interpret appropriate laws and policies and advise management, employees, and retirees accordingly.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures align with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America's Standards of Practice.
  • Develop and implement onboarding calendar and track onboarding activities for all new employees to lay a foundation for continued success
  • Participate in agency fundraising events as requested.

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in human resources or business-related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in human resources
  • Strong bias for thoughtful action, highly relationship-oriented, someone who can accomplish work with and through others via purposeful collaboration;
  • Experience working with all levels of leadership and staff; ability to prepare and present to senior teams and Board of Directors
  • Confident and self-aware; ability to use appropriate communication style for various groups across the agency
  • Strong project planning and management skills; able to manage multiple key projects simultaneously.
  • Displays and demonstrates passion, professionalism, and a personal commitment with a nuanced understanding of our principles of equity, diversity, and inclusiveness.
  • Familiar with the laws, labor market, hour, and wage regulations
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and exercise discretion
