About The Job

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Director, Enterprise Cloud Architecture is responsible for the strategic leadership and direct oversight of cloud delivery, engineering, capacity management, and performance metrics. He/she will lead a wide-ranging community consisting of Architects and Engineers and will serve as the technical leader to design, innovate, and roadmap long-term API/ Infrastructure-As-Code (IaC) strategies, which unify American Airlines around people, processes, and technology.

The leader will leverage her/his diverse skillset capabilities, strategic thinking, leadership and communication acumen, and will provide a wide range of critical capabilities, to enable the long-range initiatives and objectives in the organization.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Technically leads AA Cloud Center-of-Excellence (CoE), Architecture, and public/private hybrid-cloud brokerage services
  • Facilitates the cloud lifecycle journey aligning to Agile, DevOps and ITIL with a strong metrics and analytical mindset to drive automation and self-service technology
  • Leads the architecture and engineering practice around Infrastructure-As-Code (IaC), to ensure that technology automation and orchestration is in alignment with business strategies, capabilities, and platform governance
  • Transforms the organization by leveraging and enabling software defined toolset predicated on continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD/CMP), e.g., vRA, Morpheus, Ansible, Chef, Puppet and drives AA adoption across a federated model.
  • Partners with cross-functional teams to roadmap technology/business capabilities into executables, as well as to improve efficiencies and reduce operating expenses
  • Accountable for identifying, designing, building, and implementing API services within portfolios and having end-to-end accountability for customer satisfaction, delivery effectiveness, and cost transparency
  • Establishes, communicates, and drives end-to-end executable technology into a reusable code/template and multi-cloud model, and provides agility and ease-of-use
  • Develops Infrastructure/Technology services roadmaps to enable innovation that creates business value consistent with the AA’s requirements and expectations
  • Provides expertise in the areas of Cloud when consulting with partners to determine technical requirements, feasibility, cost, and performance
  • Strategizes with peers to develop outcomes based services functionality, scalability, and technology
  • Collaborates with application architecture teams to develop collaborative designs, solutions, and alternatives for fit
  • Designs and implements multi-tiered/cross-cloud solution that is highly available and resilient
  • Implements/integrates cloud computing architecture solutions that address cloud security and compliance fundamentals, deployment automation, and elasticity of environments
  • Leads pre-production readiness efforts, POCs, lab testing, and knowledge transfer
  • Works with engineering teams to accelerate software delivery
  • Maintains deep technical and business knowledge of industry directions and trends in the area of cloud & SDDC/SDN
  • Works closely with other technology teams to identify dependencies and collaboration needs (business applications, dev/ops, digital applications, network, infrastructure, architecture and delivery).
Qualifications
  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related field or equivalent experience/training;  Master’s degree or equivalent work experience preferred
  • 7 years of experience at the Director/Chief Architect level
  • 7 years of leadership experience in a technical environment, preferably in a high performing service environment with quantifiable results
  • Deep understanding of the interdependent relationship between technology and the applications/services
  • Extensive experience across a diverse spectrum of IT disciplines including Cloud (Docker, PCF AWS, Azure, GCP, IBM Cloud), IaaS, PaaS, Kubernetes, SDDC, SDN (NSX-T), Network (SD-WAN), IT Automated Delivery, Datacenter, Collaboration, Converged Data Services - Telecom/Mobility/Data (VZN, AT&T, Sprint, etc.), and UCaaS
  • Extensive expertise functioning and succeeding in a bi-modal and federated IT organization
  • Extensive experience with DevOps, TOGAF, ITIL and Agile process methodologies
  • Extensive service management and service delivery experience with global companies
  • Ability to see the "big picture" across private and public hosted technology services, identity management, security, telecommunications, enterprise storage and big data opportunities, end user experience, and training/education
  • Experience implementing automated software and cloud integration (Azure, AWS, GCP).
  • Experience designing, building, and implementing API gateways and micro-services architectures.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing a taxonomy for service delivery performance.
  • Extensive experience establishing, monitoring, and managing IT as a business enabler.
  • Extensive experience managing 3rd party multi-year MSPs globally improving quality while reducing cost
  • Extensive experience overseeing highly diverse technical teams globally, leading innovation & cloud transformation
  • Extensive experience coaching, mentoring, guiding, and leading a geographically diverse workforce -must love people!
  • Ability to build and facilitate long-term relationships at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Ability to influence through outstanding interpersonal skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively and clearly communicate a strategic vision and tactical vision to all levels within the organization
  • Ability to communicate complex, technical topics to a wide variety of audiences
  • Ability and willingness to interact with senior management and influence decision-makers, embracing ambiguity and enabling clarity
