  • Responsible for leading a qualified team of communicators who work on communications strategy and programming for the airline. This person in this role will lead the communications planning and editorial strategy for the company and manage the implementation of the airline’s approach to proactive storytelling across all mediums

What you'll do

  • Works along with the communications leadership team to develop actionable internal and external communications strategies with the goal of improving American’s reputation among team members, media, influencers and ultimately customers
  • ·Provides strategic advice to senior leadership team on storytelling and media
  • Leverages the Company’s existing media and third-party influential relationships to enhance relationships
  • Identifies, shapes and pitches proactive company stories that reinforce, internally and externally, key business strategies and results
  • Manages a combination of traditional and digital communications channels to engage the Company's geographically dispersed and highly-mobile workforce
  • Establishes and maintains successful partnerships with other leaders and teams from across the airline, including marketing, brand, loyalty, premium experience, and customer experience
  • Manages the creative services department and a/v personnel charged with delivering real-time services in support of the airline
  • Serves as a company spokesperson
  • Engages in ongoing engagements with reporters, including pitching stories and responding to incoming inquiries
  • Assists in developing the annual corporate communications operating plan/budget and oversees day-to-day department activities

All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and integrity
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience/training
  • ·7 years of leadership experience, including social media, internal communications, and media relations

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Extensive professional experience in media relations for a major corporation
  • Deep consumer/lifestyle/tech media relationships at the highest level
  • Storytelling experience
  • History of strong, caring leadership and developing team members
  • Creative thinker who is solutions and results-oriented with a passion for the airline industry
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, demonstrated through experience developing and growing cross-functional relationships
  • Ability to influence others through outstanding interpersonal skills, collaboration, and negotiation skills
  • Impeccable project planning and organizational skills, with ability to effectively and simultaneously manage multiple large projects within tight deadlines and maintain attention to detail
  • Ability to remain calm and maintain poise in difficult/stressful situations
  • Ability to represent an organization to media/employees in a professional manner
  • Ability to adapt and respond quickly to changing landscapes and to work well under pressure and deadlines
  • Ability to exercise sound business judgment and handle confidential information with sensitivity
  •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Knowledge of issues facing the aviation industry
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software
