UW Information Technology (UW-IT) is the central information technology organization for the University of Washington, responsible for strategic planning, oversight, and direction of the UWs IT infrastructure, resources, and services. UW-IT provides critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers, and research operations around the world. UW-IT partners with the UW community to enable innovation, learning, discovery, and service.

IT Infrastructure provides knowledgeable system design and administration, software engineering, and operational support for academic systems, administrative systems, and research computing.  The Computing and Storage team designs, implements, and operates enterprise-level virtual and physical servers, as well as data storage services (storage area networks, network-attached storage, backups, and archiving).

The DevOps Engineer position requires a team-oriented IT professional, experienced in designing, implementing and managing complex Windows applications, systems, and infrastructure in a highly available production environment.


  • Bachelors Degree in_ computer science, Engineering  or a related field or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience with Windows systems engineering, including extensive hands-on knowledge of Windows Server in a highly-available production environment

  • Experience in a Microsoft .NET environment supporting developers and applications

  • Familiarity with continuous integration/continuous deployment tools (CI/CD)

  • Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps/TFS and Azure Pipelines

  • Experience and knowledge in .NET, C#, and PowerShell

  • Hands-on experience supporting IIS

  • Hands-on Microsoft SQL Server experience

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and apply new technologies

  • Excellent written/oral communication skills, technical documentation skills, user liaison skills, and personal interaction abilities


  • Prior developer support and consulting experience,, including experience with automated builds, release management, web servers, load-balancing, storage, and databases

  • Prior experience in a research university or other academic institution


    Hybrid schedule may include in-person work, both in the office and in the university data centers.

    The position participates in an on-call rotation and must be able to respond to outages during off-hours.

    This is an essential position and is required to report to work remotely when UW suspends operations.
