Position Purpose

Under supervision from Custodial Services management, performs a wide variety of intensive cleaning and routine building maintenance within the College's specially designated Covid-19 Isolate and Quarantine Residence Halls. Wears required personal protective equipment while performing duties and scrupulously follows appropriate practices for working safely and responsibly in a potentially hazardous area. Works a flexible schedule, first and second shift and is on-call, ie., available to report for emergencies or other duties at short notice and be fit for duty when responding. When not required to work in the Isolate and Quarantine areas, must be willing to perform regular Custodial duties in other college facilities to complete weekly schedule, as required.

SCHEDULE : Flexible schedule, 1st and 2nd shift.
Must be available on call.

This position is a term position through June 30, 2021, extension beyond that date possible.

Key Accountabilities

Special Responsibilities for Isolate and Quarantine Residence Halls:

Cleaning and Disinfecting

  • Working a flexible schedule, and "on-call", performs intensive cleaning and disinfecting in all parts of Isolate and Quarantine areas, following federal and state guidelines, in a safe and responsible manner. Duties include:
    • Unlocks and locks assigned spaces
    • Cleans and disinfects bedrooms including disinfecting of all frequently touched, hard and soft surfaces.
    • Removes linens for laundry, following guidelines to avoid dispersal of virus.
    • Cleans, mops, strips, waxes, and buffs all hard surface floors e.g. stairways, public restrooms, kitchen areas, laboratories, dining rooms, hallways; vacuums and shampoos carpeted offices, hallways and common areas; washes windows (inside and outside) in entrance halls; dusts office furniture and window sills.
    • Cleans public restrooms and showers; scours, disinfects, and deodorizes toilet bowls and sinks; cleans and disinfects counters/vanities; polishes mirrors; replaces and stocks restroom supplies.
    • Following guidelines to avoid virus dispersal, safely empties office and common area trash cans; implements FO&M recycling procedures; picks up, bags and removes all trash inside building as well as loose trash around building perimeters to designated areas.
    • On an as-needed basis: washes windows in student rooms, removes and cleans hall light covers, changes light bulbs, cleans light fixtures, using ladders as necessary.
    • On an as-needed basis: assumes responsibility for trunk rooms, including cleaning and arranging items, enforces trunk room policy.
    • On an as needed basis: sweeps dirt and leaves and shovels snow from walkways and spreads sand on walkways at least three feet from all entrances to buildings at start of and throughout day. Sets traps to catch a variety of rodents and takes captured rodents to outside area for release. Sprays inside and outside of buildings with various chemicals to control insects.
    • Keeps note of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do the work. Notifies management when more materials are needed or when equipment is in need of repair or replacement.

Maintenance Work

  • Performs minor repairs and routine maintenance within Isolate and Quarantine areas, including but not limited to doors, light fixtures, smoke detectors, minor plumbing, HVAC air filter maintenance and temperature monitoring and control in order to ensure appropriate workplace and residential building conditions.
  • Observes and reports in a timely manner any defects, deterioration, and wear and tear on buildings; orally communicates emergencies or describes trade work that involves major repairs to the Custodial Supervisor; or inputs requirements into the work order system.

Provides transportation as required to meet the needs of the Dartmouth residential community under quarantine or isolation. This includes providing transportation of individuals to residential quarantine facilities or DHMC and delivery of food.

Personal Protective Equipment and Social Distancing Responsibilities

  • For all work in Isolate or Quarantine Residence Halls, wears required PPE and follows all guidelines for PPE use and Covid-19 hygience practices in order to mitigate contamination and spread of the virus
  • Completes required online training for operating safely in a potentially hazardous environment.

Additional Duties:

  • Works general Custodial duties when not required to work in non-Isolate/Quarantine.
  • Operates a motor vehicle to perform duties as required.
