  • ​This job is a member of the Credit Union Team within the American Airlines Credit Union.
  • The Compliance Officer is responsible for the planning, development, implementation and execution of American Airlines Credit Union’s overall regulatory compliance program and its requirements across all Credit Union operational areas.
  • The Compliance Officer serves as the Credit Union’s subject matter expert regarding regulatory compliance for the industry, with well-rounded knowledge of AACU operations, the credit union industry, and financial institution laws and regulations, including but not limited to CFPB and NCUA regulations and the FFIEC Consumer Compliance Rating System.
What you'll do
  • Reviews, evaluates and updates the Credit Union’s Compliance program including conducting compliance reviews to incorporate best practices and regulatory changes, ensuring that effective, efficient, sustainable controls and procedures are implemented by the business lines.
  • Collaborates with managers, senior team members and officers of the Credit Union to ensure operations are in compliance with state and federal laws and government regulations and policies and procedures are followed in accordance with the applicable regulations.
  • Meets with federal regulatory examiners, auditors and consultants during federal examinations, internal and external audits and compliance reviews; reviews results and has authority to recommend and implement changes or corrective action to procedures and policies as necessary to ensure continued compliance. Coordinates appropriate regulatory responses.
  • Assists in the development and review of business processes to ensure compliance on all new and existing products and services and the related policy and procedures, disclosures, marketing materials, website and all online delivery channels, and all communications to members.
  • Identifies regulatory training needs and recommends appropriate training.
  • Maintains a high level of professional expertise through ongoing training, research and continual review of regulatory and industry publications to stay aware and proactively recommend revisions to address new developments impacting the organization.
  • Directs, manages, coaches and develops Compliance team members, assigning and delegating work assignments or projects and overseeing work performed.
  • Serves on the Credit Union’s core system’s Compliance Advisory Board and assists with interpretations, priority and delivery of solutions to regulatory compliance issues as it relates to the Credit Union’s computer processing system.
  • Works on additional projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to travel required as needed.
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory performance and attendance.
  • Ensures the security and confidentiality of all account and related information which is part of their work and for ensuring that his/her work is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act.

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related field, or a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge to satisfactorily perform the essential job functions
  • Certified Compliance Officer accreditation required within 12 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Ten years or greater experience in a financial institution regulatory compliance role
  • Previous successful leadership or supervisory experience
  • Working knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding financial institutions and/or American Airlines Credit Union operations

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Skilled in Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) gained through either work experience with the software or education and hands-on use of the software
  • Ability to perform legal research and analysis
  • Ability to learn and adapt to any changes in the regulatory environment and ability to apply knowledge
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent oral and written communications skills & exercise effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and work well independently and as an integral part of a team
  • Ability to exercise strong critical thinking, analytical, database management, statistical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions by exercising independent judgment and capacity for attention to detail, and must have strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate changes or findings effectively; Monitors transition and evaluates results
  • Ability to work with self-direction, independent judgment, show initiative and flexibility when warranted and work effectively with all levels of management. Changes approach or method to best fit the situation
  • Ability to problem solve by identifying and resolving problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully, develops alternative solutions
  • Must pass applicable American Airlines pre-hire compliance checks
  • Must have an acceptable credit history, which will be verified
