Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Catering Server position. The Catering Server is a part time, casual position, with no benefits. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the w ays in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

The Catering Server supports the efforts of Amherst College Dining Services by providing the diverse campus community with quality products and excellent service. The server provides food and beverage at catered events, including but not limited to banquet dinners, receptions, large campus events and deliveries. The Catering Server takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

The work schedule varies and corresponds to the College's operational needs. Events occur at a variety of times throughout the week including evenings and weekends. A flexible schedule is required.

P rin c ipal Duties a nd Re s ponsibi l i t ies:
  • Establish a welcoming and professional atmosphere for a diverse set of guests by giving ultimate service customer service
  • Ensure all food and beverage is served in a timely manner following safe food handling procedures

Set-up and Breakdown Support
  • Assist with moving tables, chairs, and other banquet equipment during set-up and breakdown
  • Clean and vacuum event spaces

  • Catering, banquet, or restaurant experience with demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Able to work flexible hours including evenings, holidays and weekends
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to supporting a diverse workplace environment
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test
  • TIPS Certification in Massachusetts
  • ServSafe Certification
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
