Members of Amtrak's Business Improvement & Analytics (BIA) team are leaders in formulating and executing business strategies, high-impact strategic projects, and continuous improvement. BIA drives value creation by shaping product & portfolio strategies to fuel competitiveness & growth, and by ensuring excellence and policy compliance in execution of those strategies.
This role supports the creation of business intelligence and exception reporting solutions and assists in data cleansing and integration projects. This position will have the opportunity to research, develop and deliver innovative solutions to functional processes or system issues to drive business improvement.
Works under close supervision of manager and/or team leads.

Regularly consults with colleagues, team leads, and/or manager to define goals.

Supports department requests through participation in researching, developing, and implementing data-gathering methods

Analyzes and synthesizes low-to-moderately complex, business metrics data.

Manipulates and integrates multiple data sources for reporting

Reports findings and recommends solutions to team lead or manager.

Collaborates with colleagues and management to implement improvements that impact smaller scale initiatives.
With colleagues, interacts with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand their business process requirements, analyze, document users needs, and perform GAP Analysis
Searches for innovative ways to create productivities and improve controls

Bachelors degree
In lieu of a degree, an equivalent combination of education, training and/or 4+ years relevant experience
Basic understanding of programming and data analysis.
Basic understanding of statistics and databases.
Problem-solving and analytical skills.
Good communication skills (oral and written).
Collaborative mindset.

Comfortable analyzing and manipulating large data sets (including data mining) and reporting findings to internal customers on projects that are considered lower risk or complexity.
Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to succeed under deliverable time commitments.
Familiarity with systems implementations
General knowledge of the basic business functions such as procurement, supply chain, finance, HR, operations, and how they work together
Proficient in using PC-based applications such as Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint
Proficient presentation skills
Comfortable working in a fast-paced role and is adept at grasping new concepts approaches and systems quickly.

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Business Administration, or related field
2+ years of relevant experience
Working knowledge of SAP ECC, SAP Concur Expense Management, Ariba and general project management skills.
Strong expertise in Microsoft excel application
Experience with organizations with multi-functional departments and cross-functional integration points
