Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant Director of the Center for Restorative Practices position. The Assistant Director of the Center for Restorative Practices is a full time, year round, term position, job group and level PT-2. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.

Under the supervision of the Director, the Assistant Director will help establish The Center for Restorative Practices at Amherst College (RPAC). The Assistant Director will share with the Director and Advisory Team in the organizational planning, priority setting, and program implementation. As a member of the RPAC team, the Assistant Director organizes and facilitates regular restorative workshops, circles, intergroup dialogues, and events with a diverse group of students, staff and faculty. The Assistant Director ensures efficient operation of the office and manages the office's budget.

Summary of Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Project Planning and Management
  • Co-create the goals and vision for The Center
  • Oversee project prioritization, planning, and management
  • Guide facilitator recruitment, training, and development
  • Manage relevant databases (i.e., track projects, workshops, and their assessment)
  • Organize event planning and management

RPAC Circle Facilitation
  • Facilitate restorative circles and conferences
  • Conduct intergroup dialogues

Communications
  • Create RPAC handbook/resource guide
  • Assist in creation and maintenance of RPAC website
  • Assist in creation of announcements and alerts for digital display
  • Correspond with RPAC advisory team and project partners
  • Coordinate emails on behalf of RPAC
  • Effectively engage with a diverse student, staff and faculty body

Research
  • Research best practices in restorative practices, intergroup dialogue, cultural competency, and related topics
  • Research and develop program assessment instruments

Administrative Support
  • Maintain a budgeting system for RPAC
  • Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
  • Maintain RPAC calendars and schedules
  • Organize and archive electronic and paper files
  • Proofread and edit documents as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Experience facilitating intergroup dialogue and/or restorative circles
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
  • Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel
  • Proficiency with or learning readiness for project management software

Preferred:
  • Master's degree or equivalent in social justice or related field
