Fermilab seeks a highly motivated ASIC Development Engineer to join the Controls and Electronic Group in the Fermilab Quantum Institute (FQI). The selected candidate will lead and/or contribute to research activities and engineering work focused on deep cryogenic integrated circuit design for Quantum technologies.

You Will
  • Perform a leading role in RF IC or mixed signal ASIC design projects, while being able to contribute individually to major design tasks.
  • Develop readout and control electronics for Quantum Systems
  • Develop design specifications for ASICs based on theoretical analyses and in conjunction with application needs.
  • Design circuit networks using schematic entry and layout tools with full-custom or timing-driven layout tools in Cadence CAD/EDA or a similar environment.
  • Model circuit networks and system components in hardware-description languages (Verilog-A and Verilog/SystemVerilog) oriented on synthesis and place and route.
  • Build test benches and carry out RF or mixed signal circuit simulations.
  • Execute physical and functional circuit and system verification.
  • Prepare documentation and participate in test-board designs and laboratory testing.
  • Deliver presentations internally, as well as national and international workshops, and at the topical conferences.

We Are Looking For
  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution, Physics or other related field
  • Background in solid state circuits and integrated circuit design
  • Background in RF integrated circuits
  • 5+ years (PhD) or 7+ years (MS) post-degree professional experience demonstrating past involvement in development of either RF or mixed analog-digital designs preferred. May consider candidates with 3+ years' (B.S.) post-degree professional experience who possess RFIC background.
  • Ability to work on challenging projects that may have tight schedules
  • Ability to work as part of a design team in a research and development environment
  • Experience with modern front-end and back-end CAD/EDA design tools, such as Cadence and Mentor for the IC design
  • Familiarity with principles of instrumentation for radiation detection with solid state or gaseous detectors and usages in extreme environments, like cryogenic or radiation harsh conditions
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to perform analytical engineering calculations, in drawing schematics and in documentation
  • Ability to travel by automobile and/or commercial aircraft both domestically and internationally
