Guggenheim Life and Annuity is seeking an experienced Application Developer to join the Information Technology department. The Application Developer will help build and support software solutions that touch every part of our business including Compliance, Marketing, Operations, Accounting/Finance, Agency, and more by reviewing, analyzing, and modifying our software solutions. This includes designing, coding, testing, debugging and documenting programs. Utilizing various technologies, programming tools and techniques you will solve operational problems, streamline business processes and help boost productivity. You will be an integral part of a very collaborative team supporting current applications, as well as future technology platforms.

Requirements include a bachelors' degree in computer programming, plus 2 - 6 years of related programming experience with proficiency in C# and VB.Net required. Experience with SQL, SSIS, JSON, Swagger, Python, Rest API and relational databases a plus.

The Application Developer role is an opportunity to apply your existing programming skills and develop and broaden your technical and business knowledge in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. This position is located on the north side of Indianapolis, Indiana.


  • Consults with user community, business analysts, and technical leads to analyze current business practices, requirements and needs.
  • Consults with other internal and external technical experts to identify root causes of problems/system defects and determine practical solutions to correct technical problems.
  • Gathers and documents information completely and accurately, and objectively before proposing solutions to business need.
  • Creates and adheres to accurate work plans, estimates, and best practices for project assignments. Maintains complete documentation of project status including work in progress, work completed, and outstanding tasks.
  • Writes program code or uses technical tools to complete the task and resolve the business need using the most appropriate technology tools and programming languages.
  • Stays abreast of changing technology and how technological advancements can be applied to business needs and applications.
  • Assists in the improvement and definition of department programming standards and development process. Uncovers and recommends best practices for use by the department.
  • Pursues opportunities to gain technical and business knowledge through education, certifications, and training.
  • Actively participates in the improvement of department policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelors' degree in computer programming, or related field, or significant work experience commensurate with degree
  • Two to six years of related programming experience/training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ongoing industry and technical education and training in best practices and use of technology to resolve business applications
  • Understanding of insurance and/or financial service applications a plus
  • Demonstrated mathematics and algebra skills including the ability to solve complex formulas
  • Ability to translate concepts and information into written format and able to communicate complex concepts
  • Ability to identify tasks and dependencies in the creation of project plans
  • Works well in group problem solving situations
  • Proficiency in C# and/or VB.Net required
  • Experience with SQL, SSIS, JSON, Swagger, Python and/or Rest a plus
  • Relational Database knowledge a plus
